Bloggin At The Beach - The Full Post

Hi All,

Wow!  That was a blast!  Kelly Kilpatrick was kind enough to let me know about the meet up that was slated for last evening (April 27) in Laguna Beach, given by Sellsisus.  I wasn't sure if I would be able to attend, but at close to the last minute, the stars aligned and I was so there.  I brought everything I would need for a fun evening, my husband Mel, my laptop and my camera.

That's me with Loren and Laurie. Oh, and that beautiful blog site on my laptop is my very own Route66Living.com!

The event was held at a quaint little hotel right at the seashore in Laguna called La Casa del Camino, on the rooftop bar.  Silly me, I thought the rooftop bar would be a lounge at the top of the building.  Nope, it was a rooftop... with a bar.  Talk about truth in advertising.  The view was quite something - we arrived just as the sun was setting and the sky was streaked with color.

When Mel and I arrived at the event, we were greeted at the foot of the stairs by a bouncer who must have been about 10 feet tall, and looked like he would be right at home on the WWF.  He held the "list".  Now, I have never worried about such trivialities in my life, so I marched over, introduced myself and up we went.  Incidentally, he never glanced at the list just let me go.  The funny thing is that when I got up to the event site, Mel and I discovered that we were the only ones there.  Seems the bouncer dude had not let anyone else up yet but us.  Boy, were the other folks surprised to find us there and all set up at a view side table when some of them had been waiting for an hour or more to be allowed up the stairs.

As I mentioned, I dutifully brought my laptop and I had planned to do blogging straight from the venue.  Mel had his as well (for him it was more of a boredom protector, he loves me, not Real Estate so I understand and allow him to bring his "busy box" where ever we might go).  I scanned the rooftop and realized that I had no idea how I would recognize anyone!  So, I fired up the 'ole Compaq and it worked like a blogger homing device!  They climbed right out of the woodwork in mere moments.  The guys from Sellisus were quite amused, as was everyone else up there by me and my 'puter.  I'm telling you folks, the geeky girl look is no act here, I am a total, confirmed gadg-a-holic!

We all hung out on the rooftop for a while and then adjourned to a restaurant next door for some awesome Mexican food (and being a little Southern California native, I know good Mexican food)!  Everyone chatted, ate and tried to figure out a puzzle that involved four matchsticks and a match head.  My Mel, smart boy that he is, had it licked in about two seconds flat.

Yup, we both look like great big dorks, but he was really tired by this time... That's my Mel with me btw.

I also really enjoyed getting the chance to meet some of the wonderful folks in person who have been so kind to me here on Active Rain.  Laurie, who along with ARDELL was one of my very first champions, Kaye who has been a bright spot every time her name pops up in a post or a comment and of course Kelly who is just a doll, warm friendly and really funny to boot!  I am so grateful to have all these new friends in my world and feel truly blessed to be where I am in life and doing what I am doing right now.  It was also quite a thrill for me to be able to introduce my Mel to Dustin Luther who actually inspired me to start all this.  Oh, and the guys with Sellsisus could not have been nicer.

This is us at the end of the evening

The whole gang

I can't wait for the next one!

Take care all, help lots of people and have a wonderful day!

Hi All,

Yes, a good time was definitely had by all...

Thesa- Yes, we did all have a good time.  How could we not?  The folks that I met last night were all a really good example of why blogging as a business vehicle is such powerful stuff.  Everyone was, in real life, just what they are like here on AR or on their personal sites.  So, the awkward, gee I don't know anyone... will they talk to me... will I make a good impression feelings were almost nonexistent.

Mary - That was funny!  Worked like a charm though, and, oddly enough got nary a glance from the other bar patrons.  Guess they've gotten used to seeing them so often at Starbucks that this seemed normal.

Sharon- No, alas, no sunset shots from the roof.  By the time it occurred to me that I should take a shot of the ocean, I could no longer see the ocean.  When it got dark, it got pitch black.  We were gathering around my monitor to use it as a light source.  Next time I promise to get more shots of everyone and everything.

Ed - I am glad you enjoyed the photos.  Hopefully you will be able to attend a future gathering.

Bryant - Oh we did... we did. And if you ever go to this place, I can recommend the shrimp won-ton's.  I would highly recommend them, but I only got one, Mel inhaled all the others, so I never got past the control sample to make an accurate determination :-)

Jeff - Good for you!  I am thrilled to hear that you were busy.  That's what its all about, right?  Hopefully, next time you can attend... then again, maybe the better thing for me to hope for is that you remain so busy that all you can do is wish you were there while taking listing after listing, and closing deal after deal.  What do you think? Good idea, right?

Roberta- I am pleased to be able to share.  Oh and thank you for adding me to your group.  I looked over the list and am truly humbled and honored to be included amongst it's ranks.

Monika - I am glad to be of service.  I wanted to help make everyone who is not in Sunny Southern California feel like they were there.  I hope I accomplished that.

TLW- It might have been a first meeting for some of us, but I'll tell ya, it felt more like a family reunion than a first date.  Good times.  Hopefully, at some point you and the HH (that would be Handsome Hubby) can be there as well.

Melody- Again, my pleasure.  I love being able to share good thingsd with my friends... all 27,000 of them!

Luisa- Yes, I agree chips & salsa do improve almost any night, especially when they are accompanied by warm friendship, good conversation and a truly awesome Chile Relleno!

Valerie - Yes we did (all together now, a-one and a-two...) Come Together, Right Now... Great fun, great friends, great food, great view, great new site... things just keep getting better and better all the time :-)

Kaye - I agree, my Mel is indeed a trouper.  He is very supportive and always has been.  I truly am the luckiest person to have found him.  I totally feel the same way you do about meeting and knowing the folks.

Diane - Maybe you will be able to be there at the next one.

Rudy- Thank you for helping make it all possible.  I am sure the site is going to take off like a skyrocket. Oh, and thanks for the cutest couple award nomination.  I also share your amazement and thrill at the all the wonderful people I have met in the almost one month since I discovered Active Rain and blogging in general.

Renee - It was a wonderful evening and I am sure the start of the cementing of some wonderful friendships and business relationships as well.  I can tell you that I know who I will call first in Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, Rancho Santa Margarita, etc. when I need to refer a client to a great agent.  And thank you so much for the good wishes for the contest.  I hope I can continue to please, amuse and engage my readers.

janeAnne - Well, if you have gotten this far, you have read my other comments to the commenter's... What did you think? Did I do OK? I sure hope so.  I really enjoy and value every comment I am privileged to receive.  Opening up my Active Rain site is just like Christmas morning every time.  I am pleased to be able to report back to those manning the fort, as it were.  Thank you for the support and the kudos, both are truly greatly appreciated.

And to the 2800 folks who have also read this post thus far, and to all those who will read it, a huge and heartfelt THANK YOU!

Take care, help lots of people and have a wonderful day!

Tisza, I missed this when you first put it up.  Thanks for the pointer over here.  I love reading stories like this one.  Actually meeting some of the people you interact with on the Rain has got to be cool.  I haven't done it yet.  It looks like you all had a blast!
