I
wrote an earlier article about Hollywood East in Plymouth MA. Here are
a few highlights of some of the things that have happened over
the past few months:
Plymouth
Rock Studios announced their
first series (airing January 12th) which can only be seen on
HollywoodEastTV.com. The series, "Plymouth Rock Studios" is a
documentary/comedy that will follow the studio's executives, employees,
interns as well as its partners and celebrity guests over the next two
years. I have signed on and look forward
to being kept up-to-date on the progress. Here
is the link to their website if you would like to subscribe
and watch as events unfold - Hollywood East TV.
The
Producers Guild of America which
has over 3,300 members, formed a two year alliance with Plymouth Rock
Studios. They will now serve as the presenting
partner of the Producers Guild Awards held January 24th, and the
inaugural to be held June 6-7. Both
events take place in Los
Angeles. Perhaps once the studio is constructed, they will host the
event in
Plymouth.
Plymouth
Rock Studios formed an alliance with Massachusetts
Institute of Technology
(MIT). Studio officials plan to spend $25 million
over seven years to fund the Center for Future
Storytelling. In order to stay ahead of advancements in technology, the
center will concentrate on enhancing imaging and display technologies,
develop next generation cameras, in an attempt to
make the storytelling process more cost effective
and flexible.
The
project is currently undergoing the Massachusetts
Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) review process. Construction
was also conditional on obtaining a grant from the state for road
infrastructure improvements. Appartently, the state
will pay for the work with bonds guaranteed by the studio. Planned improvements will certainly be needed to accommodate the expected increase in traffic and correct
problematic intersections. To view plans and road infrastructure, vist The Studio.
MA is certainly interested in capturing more revenue from the movie industry. MA has seen an increase in spending over the years in the film industry. It is anticipated that spending for 2008 will be in the range of $350 to $400 million as compared to $6 million in 2005. Here is a list of Films Made in MA. The list contains movies all the way back to 1903. Make sure you check out the "films in production" tab for movies filmed in 2008.
As a Realtor, I am optimistic that this will improve market conditions for the surrounding communities. It might not happen over night, but as each day progresses toward the construction of this project, there is hope of better things to come.
