The San Antonio City Council recently approved a 3.9% rate adjustment (increase) in our water & sewer usage will go into effect in January, 2009.

The funds will go directly into our community to repair and replace our aging water and waste water infrastructure and to provide funding to develop critical water supply projects.  The estimated increase would be approximately $1.63 per month - based on the average SAWS residential usage of 7,788 gallon of water and 6,178 gallons of wastewater usage per month.

Complete rate tables and a residential rate calculator are available on the San Antonio Water System website.

Judi - When they first announced an increase I was a bit bummed that my water bill would go up.  When I realized the difference in cost, I was too upset.  And when I realized what they base their average on, I wasn't bother at all.  I have never been close to the average - in fact I'm typically about half the average for San Antonio (and my own neighborhood - which is a great feature on our water bills).

Matt, thanks for stopping by.  I'm not too upset either.  We're normally below average for our neighborhood and San Antonio too.  I do like that feature on our water bills too.

Judi, Rates here are going up as well...at least yours is rising for good reasons though and there are ways to cut back on useage.

Carole, yes, they're telling us where it's going to be spent.  Updating the system will be money well spent.

Carl, I'll be over to the blog along in a couple of minutes.

Hey Dale, nice of you to stop by here.  You're right, it's not that much of an increase and if it helps them update and upgrade our water and wastewater systems -- then, it's worth it.

I love your little water drop - very cute.  When I got this notice I was like "ANother WATER bill, I just paid it!" but it was the announcement so I was glad.  I have always thought it was REALLY cheap for water.  KM

Judi, doesn't San Antonio have plenty of water? Everything seems to go up - your little drop is cute...as long as they're updating the current system, that is a good thing. ;-)

Teri, No, we're often rationing our water.  If we don't get some rain this Winter and/or Spring to recharge the Edwards Aquifer (where our water comes from), we'll be rationing all Summer and Fall!

I don't mind the increase as long as it's being used to update and upgrade the water system and waste water system.

Hey Carl & Ceil, Sorry, I wasn't home when you knocked.  I was at the store returning my GPS and getting a new one.  Now, I have to learn how to work the new one -- got a different brand.  My other one (not that old -- a year and a half) kept losing it's satellite connection today and there wasn't a cloud in the sky to interfere with it!!???   Soooo, back to the store it went (had a 4 year service warranty on it -- it doesn't work -- my money is returned).  :)  WOOHOOO  Got a newer model for less money than the old one cost plus a new 4 year service warranty!!!
