Top 10 Most Memorable Real Estate Agent Roles in the Movies

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Real Estate Wiki

I thought this would be a fun list to post for everyone as a follow-up to my movie-themed post last time. Here are the top ten most memorable real estate agent roles in the movies:Memorable Real Estate Agent Roles - Photo Courtesy of gerard79

1. Jack Lemmon, Glengarry Glen Ross

2. Annette Benning, American Beauty.

3. Al Pacino, Glenarry, Glen Ross

4. Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, Superman

5. Kevin Spacey, Glengarry Glen Ross

6. Jerry Blake, The Stepfather

7. Michael Keaton, Clean and Sober

8. Adrienne Barbeau, Open House

9. Josh Mostel, The Money Pit

10. Poltergeist, Craig T. Nelson

I find it interesting that the majority of these roles portray real estate agents in a negative light (albeit great performances). I think its about time Realtors got a better rap in Hollywood!

Who would you add to this list or remove?

I would just put the Glen Garry/Glen Ross right at the top. A great movie.

Thanks Tony and have a Happy New Year

DJ,

Great list, you failed to mention the King of Real Estate in American Beauty.

Fun post!

I don't think Craig T. Nelson was a realtor in Poltergeist.  He was a developer or construction contractor.

I saw PS I love you yesterday and Hillary Swank played a real estate agent.  The husband didn't like the place but the wife was pushing it on him. Hillary was like, "You need to listen to your husband, he doesn't like this place." The wife was like, "I don't care what he wants."  Then they show Hillary bringing a box of stuff home... guess she quit or got fired since she was with her sister-in-law partner.

I liked her honesty and not just going for the sale.

This was great ... you are right, most of them have a negative image.  I can't say that I can think of one positive roll of a real estate agent in the movies.  I do think that Don Baxter,  the husband on the 60's sitcom "Hazel", was an agent.  He didn't seem too bad!

There are a few I haven't seen thanks for the list... I did enjoy Money Pit. Another movie was Closing Escrow, it was not memorable...

In most of the movies, being a realtor was just a profession, and not a key point or factor, unlike in Glengarry.

I do remember:

Demi Moore in Indecent Proposal; and Gwyneth Paltrow in Bounce. Both movies are forgettable.

I heard about, but haven't seen the movie ""Closing Escrow". So I guess I should check that out. According to the write up:

"For their directorial debut, Armen Kaprelian and Kent Llewellyn, former producers of HGTV's reality show "House Hunters," employ a Christopher Guest-style pseudo-documentary approach. As in Mr. Guest's films, much of the dialogue is improvised (here with wildly mixed results), and no matter how ridiculous the characters come off, they're more than just punch lines. In fact, despite their quirks, the three real estate agents and their clients - three couples in search of a dream home - featured in "Closing Escrow" are improbably endearing"

Richard - Great addition!  The King of Real Estate was SUCH a great character!

How was Lex Luthor a real estate agent?  I don't remeber him being one...
