If you live in California, you may be more aware of this than the rest of us.

The thought of driving an electric car puts most of us off straight away.

The thought of an electric sports car is all most laughable..... Well not any more.

As I understand it, and I may be wrong, it has been known, a .net man from silicon valley has done what Detroit or any place else has yet to do.

Which is to produce an electric car that people may want to own at a cost that is not ridiculous.

The car is electronically limited for a top speed of 125 mph and will do 0 - 60 in under 4 seconds, has a range of 220 miles and will re-charge in approximately 3.5 hours.

I guess what constitutes "a ridiculous cost" varies.  It is a step in the right direction though.  Now if they would only come up with an electric that will haul 7.

Alan, I'd like to think this is a first step in weaning us from oil. It's interesting that it took someone away from the Big Three to accomplish it. I'll be interested in following their progress.

Alan - It sounds like the telsa will preform just as well as a gas vehicle. All they will have to do is get it priced right where people will buy it.

Tesla is not going to make it. Here is why:

•1.    Blacklisted by VC's for massive number of huge operational mistakes.

•2.    Massive number of postings online by past staff defeat brand value.

•3.    Was not on the ball enough to apply in time or in a complete manner for DOE money which Bright Automotive & Fisker already beat them to the punch on.

•4.    Promised money to City of San Jose in Factory deal which they knew the feds would not allow them to do per the nationally published written rules of the DOE funding.

•5.    Have a debt ratio that the market cannot offset for many times their cash flow term.

•6.    In a market vacuum they MIGHT be able to survive but 15 new car companies have announced cars which beat Tesla on EVERY metric. The competitors have already killed them.

Thanks for your comments. David Lars may have a point, although he might also have an agenda. In the interest of fairness, I am looking into the the two companies that David mentioned. I will either update my blog or add the addition information as comments.
