A recent story from Kiplinger.com rates Albuquerque as one of the “safe havens” for real estate in the country. Our experience is that we have seen some declines in home prices, but nothing like the sharp declines in other parts of the country. We did not have the double digit price increases in 03 and 04 like other markets, so we have not had double digit drops. We will see how this plays out but my feeling is that the sales will start to pick up and 09 will end up with home price appreciation. Safe Havens in Real Estate - Yahoo! Real Estate: "Active retirees and immigrants have also migrated to the area, ensuring a well-rounded housing market. Experts project 9% population growth between 2006 and 2011, compared to 6% nationally."
