Someone did a class at Inman Connect awhile back on "Inbox Zero".  My first thought was, that's a dumb idea.  I hope I NEVER have an empty Inbox.  I didn't go to the class :)

Here's what I'm gonna do.  I'm going to FILL my inbox with one email from every important person in my life, so I can hit Reply to and get in touch with everyone I know in the first two weeks of the new year.  Past clients, current clients, future clients in my prospect folder, family, friends, FULL!

I WANT A FULL LIFE AND I WANT A FULL INBOX!

AN EMPTY INBOX IS LIKE THE PHONE NOT RINGING!!!  I HAD ENOUGH OF THAT IN 2008!

2009?  Give me a FULL Inbox!

Ardell - I'm right there with you, an empty inbox doesn't mean a thing.  I'll take all the email that I can get and I love the sound of a vibrating BlackBerry, that's what business sounds like.

I miss the sound of the fax machine when a contract was coming in...eFax doesn't make that noise :)

Very funny, I never can get it to zero, but I do try - I had 9200 before Christmas and now only 170... Which means I actually made sure I did something about them all and then filed them...  One thing that has really helped me keep it down was the create a rule thing in outlook - never knew it existed before.  You can create rules - like every store that sends me coupons, etc. now goes directly to Junk Mail, which I look at once daily and delete or keep depending on my mood.  Then all the newsletters, etc that come in are going to a Reading file I created and I look at this as I have time...  I was prompted when I told an associate that I couldn't find an email I had sent her and could she send it back to me, she said "Joanne, I have 85,000 emails in my inbox...  Needless to say I found the email myself and then started cleaning it up...  I do love your idea of sending a mass reply though, I didn't know you could do that, I will have to try it...

Joanne,

I run my rules one time only for clients to sort their emails into files in Outlook.  You don't want the rule to file it automatically on contact, or you may miss important emails.

Hi ARDELL,

I came across this and had to smile. Here's to keeping that In-Box overflowing.

Good things this year,

Tamara

Ardell, I did something similar.  I created an online holiday greeting before Christmas and went through all my Outlook Contacts and my Outlook Leads folder (where I file my e-mails from leads).  I added a personal note to each one.  It took me about 15 hours to get them all out over the course of a week, but I heard back from so many people that I had lost touch with.  This year is starting out good, I hope it continues at this pace.
