I have had a few different careers.  All of them demanded hard work.  But none before demanded that I call as much attention to myself as being a Realtor.

I've never been afraid to be the Center of Attention, to say the least.  Sometimes that wasn't a good thing.  But finally, I am in a position where being comfortable with lots of attention matters.  There is always a crowd in any community, no matter how large or small.  The point really is to stick out!

So how to stand out - in a POSITIVE WAY?  How to stick out wildly and effusively without resorting to desperation?  So far, this is what I have learned.  I've learned it by doing and by watching. Feel free to COMMENT and add more!

1.  Be visually stunning.  We all have our own personalities.  Make sure we choose colors, themes and visuals that speak our language, but speak TO a wide number of people in an inviting way.  (for example, i find that thing on the side of my blog GARISH and know I need to change the colors. !!)

2.  Be informative.  Any of us reading this know that.  Tons of Blah Blah Blah is just that.  Blah Blah.  Information is King and Queen.  Use it!  Incorporate it!

3.  Be Bold.  Being bold is compatible with being subtle.  We can make bold statements in subtle visuals, or use bold visuals to make subtle, but important statements.   Don't ever send something out that does not do one, or the other.

4.  Be consistent.  It's easy to make a splash.  It's easy to get revved up once or twice, and then walk away.  All of us reading this know all of this, I'm sure.  But I need to remind myself every day that consistency over a period of time creates self-discipline, which is the ultimate key to success, and also attracts people who can trust me.

5.  Have Integrity.  Yes, we are all prostitutes.  OOPS, is that politically incorrect?  One of my favorite authors is Caroline Myss.   She talks about "archetypes" we all embody.  The prostitute is one of the personalities, or archetypes we all work with in ourselves.  What that means is that in some way, we are all trying to sell ourselves - at different times, in different ways, for different reasons.   The key?  DO IT WITH INTEGRITY. It makes all the difference in the world.

6.  Have as much fun as possible.  Let's face it. There are miserable people who love other miserable people.  As far as I'm concerned, all of my co-workers can have those clients.  I don't want them.  By enoying this and having fun, I will send out a message to people who like to laugh once in awhile and hopefully stand out positively for them.

OK.. 6 for now.   That's it.  I'm eager to read your comments!

I could not agree with you more. You seem to have a good plan for 2009 and I know it will lead you to be successful. Good luck this year.

Very astute observations... I especially like number six. Gloom is palpable. It's nice that every market has opportunity... and as we find it- our disposition shifts and the delight we have with our job shows. I wish you a great 2009 in paradise- there are so few places that can match what Flagstaff offers.

glad you have the caveat of standing out in a good way. I know lots of people that stand out but not sure it's good :) Here's to a good 2009.

I really enjoyed your post!  I agree that we all have to sell ourselves in one way or another - but do try to stay away from the actual word prostitute!  :)  I am also with Sotheby's by the way, so we should be associate friends!

I am also with you on the laughing - gloom and doom pushes people in the opposite direction!

Happy New Year and Congrats on the Feature!
