Arizona cities are looking to recoup unpaid rental taxes

As the economy keep getting worse, the valley cities are having to look for revenue where ever they can, one source of revenue that they are looking towards is taxes on rental homes that the landlords should be paying.

The inspectors are going through tax records and other areas to uncover property owners that are not collectiong and paying the correct taxes.

if you are the owner of rental properties in the Phoenix metro are check with your local cities to find out what you have to do to make sure you don't become a target

I was just having a conversation about this earlier this evening. I told a friend who is trying to decide if she should rent out her condo and buy a patio home, don't even try to pretend it's not a rental.

Also make sure that you register it with the Maricopa County assessor, they have to change it from class 3 to class 4 residential rental property. You also have to register your new mailing address with them. They can fine you $1000 plus $100 a month in back fees if you fail to do it. I just got a letter from Glendale Code Compliance on this.
