Stowe Vermont Hot Air Balloon Festival - 2005

Life is a journey as we've all been told our whole lives.  Active Rain is a journey as well, and it becomes whatever we choose to make it for ourselves.  My journey to 300,000 points has been full of all kinds of things!  Sort of like the journeys the Flat Active Rain Dudes took all over the country - remember those fun posts??   ;-)

I joined Active Rain back in July 2006, and I think there were barely 4,000 members back then.  I had no idea what this place was nor any notion of what it could be or what to do now that I had joined.  Maybe I was lucky enough to set up a profile then, but I sure didn't write any posts back then.  I remember coming back some time later on, did some reading, got up the nerve to leave a comment here and there, and finally that September, I put up my first post.  I was nervous as all get-out.  I got one comment from back then, and then a jokester showed up a year later and left me a comment.  And then another friend stopped by....

And from then on, I began dipping into the posting and commenting waters of AR.  Oh yeah, I made a few mistakes, the biggest one was leaving my website links after my comments.  But I tried to rectify that by apologizing for committing the cardinal sin of 'blogging spam'.  Back then, to help us figure out something to write about, someone at AR would put out topics, "Blog Topic #3, Blog Topic #5, etc.", that some of us would then write about.  Guess we're all beyond that now, huh?

From July 2006 through today, I've made so many awesome friends, and you all mean so much to me.  What a journey we've been on together, huh?  So many fun meet-ups, all the great phone calls and emails.  Celebration Gathering, Asheville Meet-Up, Portsmouth On the Docks Meet-Up, Clermont Florida Meet-Up, Cape Coral Gathering, and Orlando AR Hard Rock Party - so many terrific people that I got to meet there at NAR Convention.  And I know I'll be meeting even more from this great community during this year, too.  San Diego in November should be great fun, and maybe even Washington DC in May.

You know, I've said to several people I've talked with here on AR, being here and sharing as we do, you really could never go to another seminar or conference or convention for educational classes because you can learn so much right here.  You can get information quicker and usually much more pertinent to our own businesses just by reading and networking with other AR members.  I know the amount of things I've learned since joining here far surpasses 3 years of seminars, etc. outside AR that I might have gone to.

Ann Cummings - NH REALTOR

I've learned so much about blogging in general - remember the book reviews a group of us did a year or so ago?  Those were fun and what a great learning experience we went through.  Some of those posts continue to be read and commented on even today.  And great friendships came about through those reviews, too.

Newspaper and magazine writers have found me on AR, and I know others have had the same types of experiences.  I've even had relatives find me that I never knew I had - how cool is that??!?!?!?

Bear Collage

We've shared lots of good times together, as well as some tearful and excruciatingly painful and sad times, too.  I can't begin to convey to all of you how very much your cards, emails, phone calls, flowers, gifts and tokens of friendship have meant to me while I've been dealing with the loss of Bear, the love of my lifeHe was my world, my best friend and business partner and so much more than simple words can convey

Thank you for continuing to keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Just a few short years ago, none of us could possibly have imagined our world being full of virtual friendships that would come to mean so very much to us.  As a friend to many of us penned, "friends that live in our computers" have come to be very close friends, sometimes even closer friends than friends in our 'real' worlds.  Some of you I've known for years from other networks, back before there was such a thing as "Active Rain".

So, as was pointed out to me on New Year's Day, I slipped past that 300,000 point milestone on New Year's Eve, as a new year was beginning.  Who knows what 2009 will bring me, what it will bring us, but I hope it's some good things, a lot more learning and sharing, and some more fun and great friendships for all of us.

Thank you all for being part of my journey for the last 2 1/2 years, and I hope we continue journeying forward together for a long time to come.

Hey Jeff - yeah, I know...it did take me a LONG time, didn't it?  I don't post as much but I comment a lot most of the time and I stepped back for awhile this year, too, and that takes a bit longer to get there. ;-)   One day, you and I will meet - I'm sure of it!

Congratulations on your 300,0000 points. I am sorry for your loss of Bear.

Back in 2006 you and someone else (?) ...  emailed me about associating on "Active Rain" after I joined but before I started participating.  I don't remember who the other person was but I remember exchanging emails with you and pondering what "Active Rain" was and what "associating" meant.   If not for the two of you would I have ever come back and got involved on ActiveRain?  Maybe, maybe not.

You have had an amazing journey here, met a lot of people for real, "the party circuit" as Dan called it.

Congratulations on all of your hard work. i orginally joined in June of '06. Didn't have a clue and asked to be deleted. Then in Sept or Oct I started up again. In that time it hasn't been what I've written it's been what I've read that's made a difference. And the people here are the big difference. Can you imagine what your life would be like if you hadn't jumped in?

Hi Jennifer - who knew where all this would have taken us back when each of us joined AR - what a great journey meeting so many wonderful people, and it has been my pleasure to have gotten to know you through your postings as well.

Hey Dan - it has been fun!  The 'party circuit', huh?  I suppose some could see it that, since it's always a fabulous time at all of the meet-ups I've been fortunate enough to take part in.

Hey Bryant - what a ride for sure!

And I'm with you about having friends just about everywhere around the country we could go - I feel just like that, even more so with Active Rain.  I had felt like that with some other online networks I'd been part of for years before I joined AR, but I think it's really even more true now because of the way we all connect here on AR through our posts and comments.  And that is truly a great feeling to have.  Here's to great friends - it's been terrific to have been able to meet up with you and TLW several times, especially that very first AR gathering in Celebration - that was awesome, and set very high standards for all of the gatherings that took place after that one for me.

Happy New Year to you and Billie,

Hi Maureen - well then I'm glad the two of us contacted you about AR back then.  You might have ventured back on your own, but who knows.  It has been an adventurous journey, and the 'party circuit', as Dan called it, has been fun as I've gotten to meet some great people in person.

Hey Linda - and I am so glad to have met you online, too.  I met you through your exchanges with Monika, and started following you from there, and I'm glad I did!  Repost that 'spam' post - hmm, I might just do that as there are an awful lot of comments full of that now.  And I'm sure, like me, they don't know not to do that.  It just may pop back up......  ;-)

Hey Dena - I'm glad you stopped by.  You gave me great encouragement on some of my localism posts back awhile, and I always appreciated your comments and ideas that you'd send my way - thank you for that!  Nope, I can't imagine what the last 2 1/2 years would have been like with being part of AR - extended family and awesome friends here have been a huge part of that journey.

Hey Gena - and here I thought I was the lone straggler from back then trying to reach that 300,000 point mark.  With all the great writing you do, I'm surprised you're not way beyond that yourself.  Yeah, I miss the days when we were a much smaller group, but we just keep moving along as things grow and change, and hopefully become better and more enriched because of it.  Thanks for the good wishes.

Hi Missy - the Flat Dudes of the Rain were the brainchild of Colleen, and they were brought out to start their journeys at the first original Active Rain Gathering in Celebration Florida.  If you click the link on the Celebration Gathering, you can see how they started and who they started their adventures with.  And the link for 'the journeys of the Flat Dudes' will show you some of where they went when they left Florida that day.

Those blog topics would be pretty funny to try to do these days, that's for sure.  I had actually forgotten all about those until I started looking back at my beginning posts, and found a couple that I did on those blog topics back then.  They served a purpose though - got some of us moving along and doing some posting that we might not otherwise have done.

I am really happy to have met you in Orlando as well, and I thank you for the emails and card you've sent my way.  I very much appreciated those.

Hey Midori - I'm glad you read some of those links, and I hope others do, too.  There's some great fun in there and some awesome memories that made my journey to this point so great.  There are some sad ones in there, too, and those show just how much of a family we can develop here by taking part in and embracing people here.

And I've so enjoyed our friendship, and very glad we got to meet up earlier this year.  Bear had a great time that day, and was glad to be part of another AR meet-up.  He met janeAnne last year when we travelled to North Carolina, and he enjoyed that one, too.  And I'll be looking forward to the next time you and I can get together - hopefully that won't be too far away.  And you can always swing up here for a visit, too.  We've got a couple other friends who'd love to meet you in person, too - so come on up.  It's okay if you want to wait till we have a little warmer weather...  ;-)

Hi Gena - I'm glad you enjoyed them.  Pictures convey so much and they contain so many memories.  I enjoy looking back at all the pictures I have, of Bear and our times together, and of the meetings with so many great AR members.  Parts of the journey of my life....

Thanks Gena,
Ann

Wow!  I just barely made 5000 points and am excited.  I can not imagine how I will ever get to 300,000.  I  am very excited to try as I know that when I finally do make it there it will mean that I have met some fantastic people and made some lasting friendships just like you.  Thanks for sharing!

Hi Marie - you will make it there, just as I did.  I took longer than most that have been around as long as I have as I tended to comment far more than I wrote posts.  But those friendships, both online and in person, are priceless.  And the learning of all kinds of things is amazing as well.  Hang in there, network, have fun, and before you know it, you'll be racking up those points.

Thanks for stopping by my post!

Anne, I'm still going through some of the links, but it looks like you've had a wonderful journey.
I'm making friends and learning a lot on AR as well.  I don't know if I'll ever reach 200,000, let alone 300K, but it's going to be fun, whatever the number. :)
