Swans Irondequoit Bay

I took this picture in the summer of 2008 while we were waiting to be seated at The Bayside resteraunt on Irondequoit Bay in Rochester NY.  There are many swans that make the bay their home.  I have read that swans have the same mate for life.  They are usually seen in pairs.  I am looking forward to seeing them again when the snow clears.

Kristal,

Thank you for sharing this beautiful picture of the swans.   It is sure nice to be able to observe them when they are floating on the water.  They move so gracefully.

Great photo, I enjoy watching these graceful birds at my town lake as well. Did you know that swans  are among the largest and heaviest of all waterbirds and they vary in color from pure white to black?

Since you are right over the border from me I added you as an AR associate. Hope you can do the same.

Best wishes for a happy, healthy & prosperous New Year!

The Hawaii state bird, the Nene, mates for life as well.  Sadly, on my last hike into Haleakala crater, only 1 of the 2 Nene was present at the local cabin.  He looked pretty lonely.

... Nice picture Kristal ! I dont see too many swans over here, although I grew up in England where they are extremely common everywhere ... beautiful birds :o)

And pretty admirable that they have only one mate for life !

Thanks for a great photo !
