According 50-year old Prof. Panarin, a former KGB analyst, author and current dean of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Academy, there is a more than 50% chance that the US will disintegrate by July 2010. He says that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar and the U.S. will break into six pieces.

Dr. Panarin began his career in the KGB in 1976. In post-Soviet Russia, he got a doctorate in political science, studied U.S. economics, and worked for FAPSI, then the Russian equivalent of the U.S. National Security Agency. In 1998 he attended a conference in Linz, Austria, devoted to information warfare, the use of data to get an edge over a rival. It was there, in front of 400 fellow delegates, that he first presented his theory about the collapse of the U.S. in 2010 based on classified data supplied to him by FAPSI analysts.

Panarin predicts that economic, financial and demographic trends will provoke a political and social crisis in the U.S. Wealthier states will withhold funds from the federal government and effectively secede from the union, social unrest will lead to civil war and the US will split along ethnic lines.

According to Panarin the U.S. foreign debt "a pyramid scheme," and he predicts China and Russia will usurp Washington's role as a global financial regulator.  He says that Americans hope President-elect Barack Obama "can work miracles," but when spring comes, it will be clear that there are no miracles."

Foreign powers will then move in.

California will form the nucleus of what he calls "The Californian Republic," and will be part of China or under Chinese influence. Texas will be the heart of "The Texas Republic," a cluster of states that will go to Mexico or fall under Mexican influence. Washington, D.C., and New York will be part of an "Atlantic America" that may join the European Union. Canada will grab a group of Northern states Prof. Panarin calls "The Central North American Republic." Hawaii will be a protectorate of Japan or China, and Alaska will be subsumed into Russia.

My Comments:

Absolute nonsense! What is the man smoking?

Yes, the US has experienced a recession or two, a housing bubble, a collapsing stock market (a few times), civil unrest and even a civil war...but we survived all of that before,..and we will again.

As a matter of fact as Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826) said: "The boisterous sea of liberty is never without a wave."

We as Americans have fought hard for freedom and equal rights. Remember the words of two other great presidents:

"Fourscore and seven years ago our Fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation conceived in liberty and dedication to the proposition that all men are created equal." Abraham Lincoln (1809 -1865)

"We and all who believe in freedom as deeply as we do. Would rather die on our feet than live on our knees." Franklin Roosevelt (1882-1945)

So whatever intel Panarin is using, he may have to adjust his predictions because we will prove him wrong. The US may have had a tough year or two, probably will even have one this year as we pick ourselves up from a depressed housing and stock market, but that we will...and we will do so as a free nation, a world power and one of the most prosperous nations in the world.

"We stand for freedom. That is our conviction for ourselves; that is our only commitment to others." John F. Kennedy (1917 - 1963).

God Bless America! Do I hear a thousand Rainers that agree!

I guess that is proof that those in Russia are still getting propaganda.  The other possibility is that you are right and he is smoking something funny.

Hi Stefan:

"Absolute nonsense! What is the man smoking?"

You took the words out of my mouth.  I will say that we all need to do a much better job paying attention to what is happening in this country.  Perhaps if more of us were, we could have averted some of this madness and incompetence over the last eight years provided to us by our politicians.  We may not like our politicians but we should blame ourselves as well for putting them there and blame the remaining portion of the American people for not taking the time to care or vote.

I think we only had to watch to emotion and unity of so many people when Barack Obama won the election to know that Americans are not even near giving up etc.  Maybe people will get angry enough with such ludicus opinions that they will further pull together to keep creating the country as great as it is.

Oh my goodness Stefan you had me about to have a freaking heart attack!  Thank you so much for YOUR comment!  Times are scary enough without hearing that kind of stuff.

As a sstudent of Russian history, I can tell you that is absolute nonsense.  Russia is a country with a history of subjugation...300 plus years under the Tatars, the Tsars, and the Communist regime.  They love to talk and boast.  Kruschev promised the same thing emphasizing the point by taking off his shoe and pounding the lectern with it.

America is a country of mavericks and individuals who prize their freedom!  Not only is this professor smoking something, I think he is also fortifying himself with vodka!

Well, that would certainly fall under the Obama "Change" banner...  It sure would suck to have that happen on one's watch.

Russia has more problems than they can handle. Maybe Dr. Panarin should offer some help to incumbent president Dmitry Medvedev and hopeful returning president Vladimir Putin.

Hear hear! I think the term "Rubbish" about sums up that guys theory. Americans will rally as a nation as we have always done, even in the midst of terrible disasters, from Hurricane Katrina to the Great Depression. We're nothing if not resilient:) Excellent article Dad, thanks!

Stefan,

"Consider the source" I think is an appropriate saying about this. :)

I read the story and no one questioned if he was paid by the propaganda ministry.  Russia may also have to worry about its own downfall.  (However, I do believe rough times are ahead for us!)

I think this guy is having KGB delusions, consider the source! If anything, America keeps moving towards a stronger central government. States splitting on ethnic lines?! That's rediculous!

Isn't it amazing the press is giving him exposure for this silly stuff? Loved your comments! Happy New Year.

I don't think the guy is too far off. he may be wrong about the time frame, but I actually agree with his premise.

We are not the America of our forefathers. It is one thing to quote a President and arouse our patriotism, but look at your audience, Stefan. Many Americans today are not nearly as well educated as we were in the past. Many Americans don't even know who said those quotes and under what circumstances.

I am 38 and when I went to school we learned  American history. My kids really don't. I have to teach them. Most kids these days can name Britney Spears before they can our Secretary of State.

My point is that times have changed and it is people that make America, not geography. More to the point, it is an ideal and yearning for freedom that makes us Americans. But what happens when that generation comes of age that was taught a different ideal. It is already happening. Our forefathers would role over in their graves if they knew the freedoms we have given away. They would curl up in fetal positions if they learned the state of our state and the apathetic people we have become.

What will become of us learned souls then, when we are just old people clinging ob to old ideals.

I fear that he is right because we have failed our children in educating them about America.

It may be that your kids can name Britney Spears before they can name the Secretary of State, but then again back in the 80's when you were a teenager, I suspect that Police and Eagles had a different meaning for you than your parents, and that for them Chicago and Berlin were places and not pop groups.

I agree that our education system has huge room for improvement, but I also believe that each generation will overcome the obstacles of its time. Often generations blame the previous, or believe that the previous was better than the current. I don't think that is valid. None are better or worse, they are merely different. Different for having lived in different times, where different things were important and different duties were required.

In my opinion, if the American youth of today, is called to duty, or required to take the responsibility of leadership, they will do so - although in a different way than the previous generation would consider - successfully.

Stefan - that's interesting that you mentioned this KGB guy's theory. Actually, it's a lot of "interesting" theories on disintegration, failure or collapse of the United States not only in Russia but also all over the world. It took time for me to find information about Mr. Panarin in Russian internet (Russian is my first language, and I have my mom, friends and colleagues living there).

Looks like anti-americanism  is one of the factors which Russian government is trying to cultivate in order to unite the nation and build an integrity inRussian society. However, government people themselves have a lot of relatives, businesses and Real estate here in America and would love to see the US in as great shape as possible.

World is not bi-polar any more. That's the problem. America showed its weakness and addiction to fraudulent activity (like selling rotten MBS to the global investors). Incredible budget deficit  and "generous" bailout  and other "stimulus" offerings make the whole world even more uncertain about the global future.

Unfortunately, it's not funny or stupid that all these "theories" appear time by time. America is in trouble but it is GREAT! God bless America!

Thanks for your interesting observations Svetlana.

Let's hope that our new President is able to get us out of the trouble.
