What happens after that computer goes bad?

By
Real Estate Agent with Prudential Damiano Realty

What to do with that broken down computer and electronic equipment? You can't just toss it away in the trash. And what about things like household chemicals, paints, or even motor oils? Throwing out any of these things that may contain toxic substances is a definite no no. Well if you're a resident of Passaic County NJ, you do have a way to dispose of these items safely.

Passaic County will be accepting items at the Para Transit Facility located at 1310 Route 23 north in Wayne on specific dates in 2009. Listed below are the items being accepted and the dates for those items.

Computers and Electronics

Computers contain heavy metals like lead and arsenic that can be harmful if released into the air through incineration or leaked from a landfill. Motherboards, monitors, laptops, printers, hard drives, fax machines, and other electronics will be accepted May 8th and 9th & Sept 25th and 26th.

Household Chemicals

Things such as old batteries, paint remover, solvents, oil based paint, motor oil, and insecticides can be dropped off April 25th and Oct 10th. And also June 6th at the West Milford Recycling Center at 30 Lycosky Drive.

These are important dates to remember. Please mark them in your calenders so that if you have any of these items, they can be disposed of properly. Do your part to help preserve our environment!

Jim A wonderful community service. Most people have good intentions but just don't know where to take these things.

Jim, great information. I guess now I can find one here so I can quit piling it all up in my garage.

Batteries and compact fluorescent light bulbs are also among the no-nos out here.

We have recycling centers here that are always open to take hazardous and non-traditional items. Unfortunately, many of them charge, which is why so much trash winds up on the freeway, at the end of cul-de-sacs, and in canyons.

Thanks Russel for mentioning those two items to be recycled.

Jim, I don't think we'll ever see the day when we have a 100% recycling rate, but the more convenient we can make it, the more people we'll have complying.
