Does someone you know need some help reading, or a self confidence boost?  Have you heard about the 'Read to a Dog' program?  Well, it's coming to the Little Egg Harbor Branch of the Ocean County Library!

READ

The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program improves children’s reading and communication skills by employing a powerful method: reading to a dog.

But not just any dog. R.E.A.D. dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team, going to schools, libraries and many other settings as reading companions for children.

Today, hundreds of registered R.E.A.D. teams work throughout the United States and Canada. Here in southern Ocean County, children of all ages have the opportunity to read to Parker!

Parker, and his handler Teri Ganster, will be at the Library on Mathistown Road this Saturday (January 10th) , at 1pm.  Stop by and take a look at this amazing program!

Morning Laura,

What an interesting program. One I had never heard of. I will check to see if it is available in our area. Thanks for sharing.

Richard, Hal & Kara I've seen this program demonstrated and the results are amazing!  If you're involved with local schools or libraries, try to get someone in with this program, or someone with a registered therapy dog!  IT WORKS!!

I've heard of dogs doing all sorts of things, but that one's a new one. It doesn't surprise me, though.

By the way, look in your local PBS schedule for a program called "Wild! A Dog's World." I'm sure it's going to be great. We get it here in a couple of days.
