Just returned from a visit to the Big Easy.  We went down for the Sugar Bowl and to cheer the Tide to a Victory.  Sad to say, we lost to Utah.  Still proud as Bama did better than we had exected this year.

I usually go to New Orleans once a year.  Have been going for the Mortgage Broker's convention for years before and after Katrina.

This past August I did not make the convention so it has been almost a year and half since I visited.  I was shocked at the difference I saw in New Orleans this time.  There is still destruction but seems like so much has been accomplished from August 2007.

In the past folks in New Orleans were so helpful and thankful for visitors.  This didn't seem to be the case in many establishments today.  We had lunch at "The Market Cafe" in the French Quarter.  The food was horrible, our orders were repeatedly wrong and upon expression of disappointment the manager laughed.  The waitress put a hefty tip on the ticket that was certainly not deserved by her service.  All but two in our party had to order twice and I never did get my lunch.  I will never set my feet in this establishment again and if you like service I would suggest you skip.

It was not only this restaurant or my group that noticed the negative behaviour.  Other's that we came into contact with were complaining about the poor service and rude treatment received in many spots throughout the city.  It seemed like the tourist have now become cumbersome and unwelcome.

I love New Orleans and have always enjoyed my visits, I have supported Katrina Relief Efforts and hoped that one day the city would rebound better than ever.  I was very disappointed this time around!  The Big Easy...Wonder if New Orleans can keep the name?

Valerie,

That's certainly a shame to hear about the attitude there.  I was under the impression that things were constantly improving, in all aspects.  I'm looking at spending a weekend there, but will be sure to skip out on the Market Cafe per your experience.

My Brother in Law and his wife were in town to see the Utes Roll the Tide and he was very disappointed by New Orleans. He loved the game, but not the town, or the people there. He had never been there, so he didn't have anything to compare it to like you do, but he was not impressed.

(He did say that the Alabama fans were very courteous after the game.)

Shucks, I thought you were down there having a great time!  I have not been to New Orleans in years.  I would love to go back but not if it is as bad as you say.  I like going places where people are happy to have you and treat you accordingly.  Maybe it will be better next time!

Patrick:  Thanks for the comment.  It was a big difference this year.  I don't know if people are weary and tired or if they are doing much better and just do not care about customer service.  One person suggested since it was a vacation spot they do not really care about return business as much as making the dollar and not fooling with making a positive impression.

Logan:  It was amazing how rude we were treated by those working in the establishments.  We did find a few places where the people were extremely nice and appreciated having customers.  I will blog those in a later post.  Thank you for the comment.

Debbie:  We did have a good time despite.  I had to practice Southern Charm because once again I wanted to give a few folks a piece of my mind.  Decided it was not going to upset anyone but me.  Love your signature.

Val, the last time I was in New Orleans was April 2007, and just spent the night because we were going on a cruise.  I guess we weren't there long enough to notice any changes, and I'm glad to say we were treated with hospitality during our stay.
