Back in 1997 or so, my former brokerage (one of the biggest) brought in their new “regime”. Our company was no longer the happy family group that kept everyone in high spirits (and committed to the brand). We used to have the “Chairman’s Advisory Council”(CAC) which consisted of the top 1 percent of the company. We gave advice to the president, he bounced ideas off of us, and we charted the future of the company.
Once the “infidels” took over, they eliminated CAC. The top producers were then forced to meet on their own in clandestine and secretive meetings. Some managers even threatened to fire those that met in this group for fear of a mutiny or mass exodus of top producers.
We met once a month regardless of the lack of corporate blessings, and shared ideas. It was kind of like an Active Rain, but in person and over dinner. Little by little, members left the company for others. It opened a whole new type of group. We were now able to learn what other companies do and what their policies were.
I wholeheartedly recommend that agents form a mastermind group, get together once a month, and talk about what’s happening in the market place, technology, marketing that works and doesn’t and personal business. It also keeps the members on the forefront of your mind for referrals.
