LOCAL THRIFT STORES not only HELP People in Need--They HELP the ENVIRONMENT

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty ONE Group Mountain Desert

While writing my post RIM FAMILY SERVICES-A Non-Profit Agency, I got to thinking how useful our local Thrift Stores can be. Now some people may snub their noses at the mention of the words "Thrift Store."  But for many fine folks, these stores may mean the difference between buying an affordable pair of shoes for themselves of their loved ones, or NOT being able to buy shoes at all. Not everyone can shop in department stores or on-line for new products. Times are difficult for many people, and for many different reasons.

The fact is, thrift storeThrift Stores have helped millions of people over the years. Instead of high priced department stores, folks on limited budgets or very low incomes, can shop in these stores and find great bargains on household goods or clothing. Also, one important detail that people forget when it comes to Thrift Stores, is the fact that these shops are like ONE BIG RECYCLING SYSTEM, which in turn helps our environment.

You know the old saying, One Man's Junk, is Another Man's Treasure....  It's TRUE!

Here is a few of our local mountain stores:

  •  The Mountain Thrift Shop 27248 Highway 189, Blue Jay, CA 92317 (909) 337-9983  MAP
  • The Cedar Glen Thrift Store 29010 Oak Ter, Cedar Glen, CA 92321 (909) 336-3220  MAP

  • Golden Oaks Thrift Shop 31944 Hilltop Blvd, Running Springs, CA 92382 (909) 867-2112 MAP

Kat ~  I have always supported the thrift stores and try to donate things which are in good shape.  Especially for working moms reentering the workforce!  They really appreciate having appropriate clothes for job interviews.  Nice list of stores in your area.  Happy New Year.

Michelle: You're right on. AND, here in our mountains, many of our homes/cabins are part-time. Some folks don't want to spend tons of $$ on all new furnishings, when they can pick up goodies at the local Thrift Stores.

Sharon: Gary was right on.  My kids used to go one to get their Halloween junk--when they were teens.
