Boy, when Ayn Rand said that famous quote could she have been talking about the real estate market we are having today? No, of course not, but still it certainly applies. Now, I am not going to tell you that the real estate market is perfect, but you know what I am going to tell you. I'm going to say your reality doesn't have to be as bad as your neighbors.

Many people including agents in this market listen to the news, then they panic and hide in the corner. They see reality as something that is impossible to avoid. Well, I can tell you that you can make your own reality by making smart decisions in your life.

In my own personal life, instead of accepting that the market is bad and that nothing is selling, I've decided to go out and find what is selling and find a buyer for that property.

In your own life, you see that unemployment is somewhere between 4-6% depending on where you live, and that is reality, but you have a job and have an income, that is your reality.

If you are an agent, why not set your own reality? Houses are still selling, they just aren't being sold by you! Why is that? Ask the agents that are selling and find out what they are doing to have their reality be better than yours and start to set your own reality.

I truly believe that you can't avoid reality, but you certainly can make your own reality better by taking the steps to avoid the mistakes of others.

Todd, living in reality is the sane way to live. Being optimistic is fine over being pessimistic, but you have to work with what you have and what is there. Clear glasses go along way to making you feel at peace.

Hi Todd, You're right on.  We need to listen to the news.  Take in all the information, be it bad or good.  Then use it to our advantage and benefit.

Right on Todd, the homes are being sold by someone why not you or us.  It's what is in our own head, right between our ears that stops us.  If we do whatever it takes to make ourselves feel good, then feeling good about yourself is like a magnet and draws others to you.

Hi Todd

Once we face the reality we can affect the change that places us on a success journey.

Good luck and success

Hi Todd: good post. Trying to escape reality is not a "good thing."  Pushing through and making it happen is my motto. ;-)

The reality in most markets is that sales are way down and we need to accept that and plan accordingly.  To do anything else is to live in denial.

I agree. If we ignore the news we may be part of the news but not in the areas we want

Excellent post

You know, I haven't looked this up yet, but I am willing to bet that if you compared sales volume today to the sales volume of '96,'97,'98, etc. , they would be fairly comparable. During the 90s, the market was more "normal" than it has been for the last few years. We have been conditioned by a bubble to believe that "extraordinary" is "normal".  It is not.  Extraordinary is extraordinary.

It is my firm belief that in a normal market like we have today, there is plenty of business to go around. You just have to be willing to work for it.

Todd, You are so right. I quit watching and listening to the news months ago. It was way too depressing. My reality is that I have more business than I know what to do with!!! I prefer my world.

Todd

People are all too fast to get in a panic mode these days. It just does not pay to have something consume your life that is not neccesary.

Sincerely

Escaping reality is not a good thing. However being inundated by negative news reports everyday can be disheartening.
