Can anyone tell me what the commercial MLS of choice is in Illinois and Iowa?

I am curious what the commercial MLS of choice is in the Illinois and Iowa area? In Colorado, we have Loopnet, CoStar and Xceligent more or less cornering the market. What is the dominant one in Illinois and Iowa?

The national players (Loopnet, CoStar, Commercial IQ) have their claws in most markets, but there are some alternatives out there in well-organized commercial markets.

There's Chicago CDB, which is centered in Chicago, but covers most of the state of Illinois: http://www.chicagocdb.com/

Iowa has http://www.iowacommercialsource.com/, but it doesn't seem to have much inventory.

Jeff unfortuanately there is not one MLS source and being a commercial realtor here in Iowa it can be a challenge. With such a low population we only have 5-6 major markets and eash has their own local MLS db. Some use MarketLynx, Xcelligent and others.

www.IowaCommercialSource.com was dropped by the eastern Iowa commercial real estate group that created the exchange a couple years ago. The site is still active but very few properties are listed there.

I would say Loopnet is your best bet to get started for Iowa, any property of any value will be on Loopnet. We have very FEW companies using CoStar, they are calling to get our info to update their DB.

If you need something more specific you'll have to contact a local commercial broker. I can help you with Eastern Iowa so let me know if you have any needs you can't find on Loopnet.

Thanks Bob! We are starting a brokerage in IL, but most likely will expand into Iowa at some point, as we have a developer partner who has projects in both states. CoStar is expensive, so that doesnt surprise me. How do you find Xceligent to be out there? We use it in CO, and it has its issues.
