Are Your Websites / Blogs Ready for 2009? Here Are 5 Things To Do NOW

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Christine Wade

It's the beginning of the year, and everyone is thinking "NEW" - but what about "OLD"?  We need to maintain what is already in existance.  Here is a list of 5 things that you need to take care of now Yea Agent:

  1. Make sure that the Copy Right notice on your website / blogs, etc... has been updated to include 2009.  Copyright notice should look something like:  "Copyright © 2000-2009 eRealty Network, LLC --- All Rights Reserved."
  2. Make sure that your contact information on all your sites and blogs is current and accurate.  Think to include new contact means like IM,
    Text, Skype, etc...
  3. Test your forms.  They may have been created years ago, and since the market has slowed maybe you have just assumed that no one is using them, but they could have stopped working if the programmer's scripts were changed, if the host no longer is supporting certain scripts, etc... (make sure your confirmation pages after the forms are filled out work correctly as well)

  4.  Validate all your links.  That's just fancy talk for "make sure they work"!  2009 is going to show greater relevance placed by Google on a site's usability and broken links are not good!  Google is going to be placing much more influence on how visitors use your site - Google Analytics should become your new best friend.
  5. Review all your domain registration and hosting information, make sure your contact info is updated with them and set calendar reminders of your renewal dates...you don't want to find out the hard way that you've missed a renewal deadline...or miss potential business because of it!

Those were fairly simple, weren't they?  Now you're 5 steps closer to getting 2009 started off on the right foot - give yourself a cheer! Actually - I've already done it for you :-)
(Don't forget that these items could all be handled skillfully by your Real Estate Virtual Assistant if you don't have room for them on your own plate.)

Hi Christine,

Thanks for the heads up on this. I try to update and change mine, yet every now and then something falls through the cracks. When I view the sites again, it seems so obvious.

BTW, bookmarked your post.

Great Tips Christine!  I try and check my links every couple of weeks because there is nothing worse than going to click on a link and it is no good.  What a pain in the you know what!  I check them all the time so that no one who clicks on the few I have get frustrated.

Eileen - Thank you for your comment, and yes...it's a great way to start out the new year off right!

Lynda - Thank you for bookmarking my post...glad to see it was of value to you :-)  Thanks for reading!

Christine - It's easy to make mistakes on this stuff...the list was meant to be used as a check list - do the ones you need to do and then check them off and get them out of your head :-)

Debra - You're smart to keep an eye on your website links...because I can assure you that Google does as well ;-)

Mary - Thank you for the kind words. Have a wonderful weekend!

Johnathan - Definitely.  There should be some portion of your week...a couple of hours on a certain day of the week...or however works best for you where you schedule in these types of activities.  Thanks for stopping by!

Laura - glad you found it helpful...hopefully you had a fruitful weekend...I took the weekend off to nurse sick kids (my own).

Tom - Thanks so much for the thought and kind words...I would just like to get the most people possible to see this post and know about the Google Starter Guide...I don't think they are considering it as a feature, but it would be nice if they would it in a newsletter issue...or if everyone would reblog so we can get as many people to know about the Guide as possible.  Thanks again, much appreciated!

Jim - You're not alone - everyone has that list...or at least the SHOULD!  Congrats on taking action...
