I'm Sorry, Bob Stewart!

outside blog or not?Imagine the shock when I answered my phone (thankfully I answered!) and it was Active Rain's fearless leader, Bob Stewart on the other end!  Mere moments before my phone rang, my hubby/CFO was reviewing my expenses for the week and had asked about new Active Rain Charges!

"Oh, it's for this new outside blog which is what I'm working on RIGHT now!"  I could NOT get the new outside blog to work and I wanted it to work right THEN!

Pearls (tips) regarding this new hyper-search-engine-juice-outside-blog seemed appropriate for an apology to Bob for having to phone me!  So, here goes:

1.  OH, NO!  My old Outside Blog is gone!  Not to worry, if you didn't 'delete' it, it will re-appear in about 24 hours.  Your outside blog will NOT change if you don't want it to!

2.  Do I HAVE to upgrade my outside blog?  NO, absolutely not!  You'll miss out on the improved Google juice but, hey, if it's working for you in a major way NOW, then don't change it!  Also, I wouldn't hesitate to have you wait until next week to change it--wait until some of the bugs have been worked out!

3.  How much does the upgrade cost?  $19. per month!  That's it--per outside blog that you want hyper-localized, hyper-SEO'd!  If you want to add a team outside blog, that will cost $79. per month.

4.  How do I upgrade the one I have or add another outside blog?

First of all, you don't HAVE to do this if you don't WANT to!  You can add another outside blog and leave your original one just the way it is!  I chose to add one instead of changing the one that I have now.

Make The Change

So, I went to my home page and began:  Keep in mind that I had already click through to the 'pay' button and entered my credit card information.

Then, I return to the home page and click on the 'new' customizable outside blog.

Start with the theme (click on 'Theme') then select the theme that works best for you:

Select your Theme

Then click 'Customize' which allows you to upload your header:

customize headerClick 'Browse'-- Locate your photo/header in your files on your computer and click 'Upload.'

You will then receive THIS message:

***Remember that your header image must be AT LEAST 960 x 134.   Customize outside blog
I had one that was 950 x 130 and it would not load!  Bob suggested that I go to Piknik.com and resize my header.  Instead, I just uploaded a larger sized photo just to make sure that it would work.

Info is automatically added into your outside blog--but, you are certainly able to tweak it if you wish:

Customized blog info

No need to 'save' just move on to 'Domain' next:

Select your Domanin Name

***Note:  You WANT to select a blog domain that is about YOUR area or you may even be hyperspecific (local) in your blog title. Click #2, the 'Check availability' link.   I tried several that were already taken and found a red --
in the box rather than the green check mark.

When you find one that you want to keep for the domain (which is FREE to you by-the-way), click the 'Claim Domain' button.

Here is the completed box that you will receive.

Got my Domain Name

Now, you will receive an email that you can follow to your new outside blog.  Remember the first one is STILL there for me!  I chose to add one, rather than change it--I just figured double-dippin' is good right now!

Also, your new domain won't be 'active' for another 24 hours.  So you can spend some time going back into your posts and adding the ones that you want to add to this new outside blog.

To accomplish that:  You will want to go to your individual blogs and click "EDIT".  At the bottom of the post, where you have always selected your outside blog for any Localism post, you are going to select the NEW outside blog also!  In this case, my old one was Charlotte NC Luxury Home Source and my new one is Debe Maxwell (Not permanently, I have to tweak that but, I was just trying to sign up quickly to get Charlotte on the outside blog map!!)

Now you will just post the remainder of your posts as you always have done.  You can select all or none of the Outside Blogs that you have--or any ONE of them!  It's quite simple when you post.outside blogs

Bob, I am so sorry to interrupted the Inman Conference today but, I really do appreciate your reaching out to me!!  I hope this helps get the message out there and serves to show my gratitude to you for helping me get my new outside blog set up!

Hi Susan!  And, sorry Bob--I just told Barb that I would give it a couple of days and let the eager-bloggers go through this--let us work out all of the bugs and then you can just swoop right in and get this done in about 5 minutes with no trouble!!

Seriously, I don't think it will take that long--I just didn't understand the buttons and the messages I was receiving and was very frustrated!  Once Bob talked me through it, it was a cake-walk!

Hi Chrisine!  Well, best of luck to you--let me know if you have any questions!

Hi Rita!  Smart girl!!  I would wait too if I hadn't been too anxious--okay, well, no, I wouldn't have waited--when these AR guys tell me something is AWESOME, I jump right in!  LOL

Hi Charles!  I don't know about THAT!  I do hope this new blog brings TONS of SEO, that's all!

Hi Connie!  Exactly!  Hey, you are NOT bothering me at all!  I had written an answer/question/sort-of-frustrated comment on several posts and Bob called me!  We got it all worked out and I thought I'd share with everyone else how I got it 'fixed' !  (better yet, how BOB got it 'fixed'!)

Hi Kim!  Don't despair!  I think it'll take longer for some than others and if it's not working by Friday or Saturday, shoot them an email.  I do know they're working out some bugs and it should be a bit longer than if they were all in WA working together on this--some are in New York at the Inman Conference and it's hard to trouble-shoot in the middle of the conference!!  I know it's going to be up and running soon.

Joan:  You're welcome and I think you're probably smart to wait!  As much as, I'm sure, the AR guys would rather me say, 'YES, everyone sign up now!' I think they'd rather have a slow trickle of new outside blogs so that they can work out any kinks in the system with fewer people!!

Gary:  HA!  You know the only time that I thought about that outside blog was when I posted new blogs AND when I was giving my listing presentations--showing the perspective clients the site!  Other than that, it ran on auto-pilot and I LOVED it--still do!  Now I have two to love and one has more Google juice than the other I suppose.

Sheldon:  You ARE my new best bud!  Thank you so much!  Actually, I took good notes when Bob phoned me!!  Thanks again...

Bill:  Well, thank you!  You know how I love my SnagIt!  It does do a good job of explaining something without having to use so many words with it!  As for my little sign-wielding guy--he's a half-iClipart, half-Debe creation!  I added hair, blush, eyes, and the sign!  I try to change him up a bit each time!  Glad you like  him!

What a fantastic tutorial. Bob always responds so quickly. I haven't decide to do new one or upgrade old one as I really like my old domain name. I"m thinking about doing a new one that is just specific to Saline as I usually focus on Ann Arbor. But, I"m thinking with the Saline one it would help with my local content.

Most of my localism posts are on Saline anyway, so I"m thinking.....

Will come back and follow your tutorial when I make my mind up what to do.

Hi Debe,

Thank you so much for making sense of this for me.  I am finding now that google is finding my blogs and also when I purchase the "neighborhood expert" it is always on the first page.  If you can just simplify a little more for me ---- with this new blog at $19. a month are we paying for more exposure on the web?  What do you see as the major benefits?

Thanks

Hi Barb!  Well, thank you!  I just phoned you back and left a vm--so sorry I missed you--I was working on snuffing out a little fire this afternoon!  Call me when you can!

Hi BB!  Funny that I read your comment about getting TLW after the AR guys and just CRACKED up!  That was priceless in all of the 'stressed-out,' angry, frustrated with new technology, griping and moaning going on last night and this morning!  Mine, http://www.weblogcharlotte.com/ seems to be working fine now!  I think you just need the 24-hours like I did.  If you do go check it out, you'll see that I only added one post to the new outside blog (simply b/c I haven't had alot of time to go edit all of my posts but, I will eventually get it done!)

Hope yours is up and running just fine by tomorrow!

Konnie:  You know, I would wait and see if we see some improvement in Google juice on those who signed up for this outside blog.  I would also wait to see what Bob, Rich, Jorgen, Brad and the gang have to say about it!

Steven:  Great!  How is yours working?  Have you gone in and added your old posts yet?  I still have to get that done!

Cindy:  Let me know if I can help--I'm happy to do so!

Hi Larry!  CFO hubby is fine with you loving me too--he's a 'save-the-last-dance-for-me' kinda guy!!  HA!  I hope this helped and I can't wait to see what the Christmas present in my blog is!!! ;-)

James:  Thanks so much!  You have a great day too!

Thanks for the info Debe.  Question: Does anyone know if Google penalizes a site for having duplicate content?  For example, if you write a blog entry, and post it to both your AR/free blog and also to your new hyper-juiced/separate AR blog, I have heard that Google has penalized sites for doing 301 redirects for domains and that content needed to be unique.

Any thoughts?  If a consumer sees identical/similar posts on two blogging websites of yours, I wonder how that will be perceived?

Missy:  You definitely understand the concept of what they're thinking that we would do with this new outside blog--use it for the Google juice and use it for a home for your hyper-local area content.  I would do one for each area and then compare the SEO juice--great way to evaluate your ROI!

Jenny:  The way that I see it, we should expect far more SEO with this new outside blog--hyper-SEO as a matter of fact!  That's how I interpreted it and what I'm counting on!

Colleen:  I was very frustrated yesterday and this morning as well!  I feel your pain!  After Bob called, I knew that others were feeling like I was and thought I'd share the ease of this so that others didn't feel like you and I did earlier!  Good luck with it!

Kathy:  ABSOLUTELY!  You can blog for free--you don't even HAVE to have an outside blog at all!  You have your free one that you can upgrade or a new one that you can add and pay $19. for (either way, it's $19. for an upgraded outside blog).  Your original BLOG and outside blog are FREE of charge!  Believe me, the ROI is GREAT on those freebies!  So, I thought it wouldn't hurt to try the boosted Google juice for only $19. and keep my same old outside blog.  Best of luck!

Anne Marie:  You are SO sweet!  Thanks!  I bought him from a clipart store online, then used SnagIt to change my little guy's look!  Good luck with your new outside blog!

Russ:  Good luck!

Anthony:  Thank you!  Best of luck to you!

Joetta:  $19/per outside blog unless it's a team blog and it's $79.

Chris:  Funny but, I've asked that question many times and it always comes back that it's okay with AR for some reason!  I can do a Google search (or Yahoo or MSN) on one of my neighborhoods and find the AR post, my outside blog and Localism--all of which have the same exact article--lined up side-by-side--all on page one!  I don't understand why we're not penalized but, we're not!  So, one more outside blog with the same content won't make any difference.

Richard:  GREAT QUESTION:  Bob said that we need to probably wait 3 days as he thinks the code is there for us to be able to do that but, to give him a couple of days.  In the meantime, I found a great domain name that I received free with my $19/month 'membership!'

Hey Sis!  I'm doing it because I think these AR guys KNOW what they're doing and wouldn't steer us wrong!  I also think that the more Google juice, the better!  Right now, it's imperative that we are OUT there for the world to find us and this should help!  As for what YOU should do, it's not going to hurt you to wait a week or two and see if we notice any difference OR if we think it's worthwhile!  You'd also be able to 'follow' the kinks rather than experience them!  Hope this helps hon!  Hope you're well in Huntsville?  We're great here in Charlotte!

Kat:  I have to say that I wouldn't break the bank if you don't have it!  Watch and see if the rest of us see the difference and then re-evaluate it!  I'm in and will let you know what comes of mine.  Remind me to email you in a couple of weeks and I'll let you know!  Thanks and smart woman watching your $$!

Paul:  Thanks and we'll ALL be seeing in a few weeks!  I'm looking forward to seeing some results!!

Sharon:  Thanks and good luck when you get to it!

Bill:  Thanks!  Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Diane:  HeeHee!  Isn't that the truth!  I knew that they were going to announce a 'big' thing and was actually geared up for a challange--they are WAAAY more tech savvy than I!  Good luck with it!

Danielle:  Good luck and there's no rush!

Mindy & Jay:  You know, mine does that too and when I spoke with Bob, he said that he has some new gurus working out those kinks beginning next week!  I'm REALLY looking forward to it because it's affected Localism as well and I don't want to advertise too heavily about Localism until these kinks get worked out.

Suzanne:  Thank you and you're welcome!

Imoria:  I'm sorry that you feel that REALTORS are 'idiots.'  I would venture to say that all of the agents here would probably not seek clients by soliciting that 'clients are idiots' as you have done here.  Do you really think that any of the agents that read this post will use you to create a 'custom website' for them after you've called us all idiots?

And, when we consistently find our names, blogs and sites rank #1 on Google, Yahoo & MSN for real estate, WHY would we pay someone else to do what we do, indeed, KNOW how to achieve?  Are you going to be able to get us on page 0 or something?!

Please do not solicit your services on my blog anymore.  You will be reported and deleted.

Thanks Debe- I'll also be postmarking this when I'm ready to buy a new one.  I really like your idea of buying a new one instead of upgrading your old.  That way, you could always cancel your new one and still have the free one.  It makes all the sense in the world.

Debe- Everyone needs to be careful with the duplicate content issue. While Google's policy is only to kick spammers to the sandbox- the issue of being punished for duplicate content is not the problem.

What Google is going to do is to set up an authority for your articles. You are authoring your outside blog that is free from AR because you have your own domain that you bought and you will be the author of this paid blog. AR is the author of your Active Rain blog and Localism is the author of your Localism blog.

The same article is showing up right now because it is showing different authors. But Google will find in time, that only one of those is the real author. The real author is the first one to post usually unless you add a no follow rule to your posts on some of the sites. ( which you can not do on AR BTW).They won't throw you out but they also won't continue to keep showing the same content. They will give a relevance and importance factor to each blog. There is a lot more to it than I can put in a comment.

This is why I say you need to change the content on your posts by 30%. So that you can keep being the author of different content. Google's mission is to provide value to their users. Their customers are the searchers. They want a varied search to come back to the searcher. ON your long tail blogging and words that are not searched for a lot- those are the only searches because that is all Google finds. But when competition arrives, this is not going to continue. You need to be ahead of your competition.

Having a paid outside blog from AR and a Free outside blog from AR is not going to hurt you today, but it is not going to help you either. I recommend going with the paid blog and not the free outside blog.

I will be going over all of this in my SEO webinar.

Perhaps in a few months when everyone else has figured it out, I'll try again.  Until then, I JUST WANT OUT.  I'm not going back in and incur another monthly charge in addition to the two I already have for NOTHING.

I don't want any new URLs.

I don't want to replace or upgrade the two great little outside blogs I have.

I am not Keller, ERA or Exit, I am Homefinders.com.

I just want out.  Getting in was easy.  Getting OUT appears to be impossible.

Hi All!  Sorry but, I have to make a blanket comment but, I do want you all to know that I've read your comments and will answer any questions that you may have!  Here are a few so far!

Katerina:  I understand about chaning 10 to 30% of the content but, how have you been doing that with your free outside blog so far?  How do we change 10 to 30% of the content with the free, paid, or BOTH outside blogs?  Since they're directly 'transferred' from AR, is there an edit option that I'm missing?  Please let us know!  I can't wait for your webinar!

Lenn:  Email or give Bob a call--he is all over those who have an issue and will take care of you while you're on the phone with him!  If you don't have his number, let me know.

Scott:  That is a question that I asked Bob and he is going to get back to me on that one too!  It would seem that if they set it up, it would be regsitered through the Active Rain Corp. and not our individual businesses.  If they do own the domain, I'm sure that they would sell it back to you should you decide to part company--but, I can't speak for them--that's what I would do!

Renee:  I'm working with a group to create a team and think that's a fabulous idea!  Check out Jon's Outside Team Blog .  I think you'll be sold on doing a team outside blog too!

Debe,

There are a couple of techical issues I am trying to address.

1. If you change your existing blog, to the new url you loose all you optimization.

I don't think you can do a 301 redirect of a individual page from a site and the internal page names changes.

You can start one from scratch ok and build it up. Secondly if you use the same content in both pages you will see a duplicate content problem with google and yahoo. I am have that now between my web site and activerain. If keywords and or titles, content are similar the search engines are tossing pages out.

This is a bite the bullet issue as i see it.

I think adding and starting from scratch is the only option and not having duplicate content.

I like to hear your view.

Richard

Debe, as always, I've been kicking this around in my mind, and have come up with a question.  Is it possible to post something only to the outside blog, and not have it show up on your AR blog, or Localism?

12:40am • #144
472,758 Points 76 Featured Posts Localism Sponsor Outside Blog

Sorry guys!  I had to do a little work today--little contract signing and negotiating (two of my FAVORITE things to do!).

Thanks Ryan!  It's really not anything additional to keep up with except the check at the bottom of the blogs when you post--either check it or not!  Once set up, it's VERY simple!

Thanks Diane!  I don't sleep very much! LOL  Several people called and emailed me to ask how-to and I just decided that writing this post would save alot of people time and frustration!  Our Cats really blew it didn't they?  I'm in a state of depression right now. :-(

Hi Richard!  Answers to your questions:

1.  As I understand it, if you change your OLD (free) outside blog, by clicking the 'upgrade' button and add a new Domain name (which I understand it's telling you that you HAVE to do!) then you lose all of your customization.  HOWEVER, I'm SURE that they're going to set up a customization just as they did with the other outside blog--I don't know why that wouldn't be an option down the road.  Right now, they're just trying to work out the kinks of the start-up.

2.  This is a BOB question!  I know our FREE outside blog is open to that and I don't know why you wouldn't be able to do that with the new one eventually but, again, that's up to BOB!

3.  After chatting with several SEO gurus, I believe that this is not the case simply because of the originating 'authors' of these sites.  I don't quite understand all of that but, that's what I've been told.  I do know that if this were going to happen, it would happen already with our other outside blogs (the free ones) and this one is no different.  I don't think the experts at AR would have given us this option if we were going to be punished by the search engines.

4.  I did keep my free one and added a new outside blog as well.  I'm anxious to check out the stats in about a week to see what the new outside blog does for me!

Hope this helps!

Debe in Charlotte

Hi Virginia:  Thanks!  I think that's smart to give it a week for the AR gurus to work out the kinks!  It's truly a simple process when you 'get' it!  Bob's a sweetheart and I can't believe that he phoned me while at the INMAN conference and didn't just wait until he got back!  He was not in a hurry to get me off of the phone either!  What a GREAT guy!

Hi Kat!  Well, aren't you a sweetheart!  Thanks so much!

Hi Audrey- Thanks and keep it in your bookmarks for about a week---let them work out the new bugs and then try it!

Hi Sharon-  I'm glad we can add another one and I certainly don't mind paying for it--for goodness sakes, I've generated enough business from here to cover that big, whopping $19/month!!

Hi Russell- Well, thank you!  As I said above, sit on it for about a week!  And, hey, YOU'RE the KING of those little gold stars!

Hi Jason- Thanks so much and thanks for the wonderful chat yesterday!  You're just as I thought you'd be--well, ALMOST!  JK!  Let me know when I can post in there and I'll add this post to that group.

Hi Mike- Thanks!  Bob & several others have said that this is not the case but, I believe they're going to write a post on this because of this 'rumor.'  Stay tuned...  Remember, we've already had an outside blog for some time and not been penalized so, why not upgrade it or add a new one with more SEO?  As well, these SAME posts go into Localism (yet another 'author' but, same post) and we've had great results from that too.

Amber:  My problem was that I wasn't entering the domain name properly--here's what you enter:  you want to search GardnerRealtors.com (no www.  and add the .com after the name that you want).  So sorry that I was late answering because I know that you have been very frustrated!  I feel your pain!  Bob told me last night that he was going to call a few of you that had questions.  Hopefully you got this resolved already!

Kris:  Thanks and I don't think it's too crucial a decision--it will still be available later down the road and it won't hurt to wait either!  Good luck!

Marian:  Thanks!  The benefit:  Double exposure with souped-up-SEO!!  Anything that brings visitors my way, I'll take it--especially if the AR guys tell me to!!

Wendy:  Well, thank you so much!  Good luck with it!

Kathy:  Thank you so much!  You know I use SnagIt for everything!  I'm a SnagIt addict!!  Anyway, you can add circles, symbols, arrows, etc!  It's SO much fun to use!  On my little guy above, I add hair, blush, etc!  I spend WAY too much time having fun with that program.  Give it a whirl!

John:  Hey, do you think they'd hire me?!!  I'd love to do that!  Thanks so much and good luck with it!

Lenn:  I'm sure that BOB has phoned you by now but, if not, he said he is going to.  I would think that would be a feature down the road but, I know what you mean--I didn't select my 'best' domain for this outside blog but, I would like to direct one of my good ones to the new outside blog when they make that option available (IF they make it available)!

Randy:  So sorry you're SO confused!  You would keep your existing domain name for your old, free, existing outside blog.  They give you a 'free' domain name with the NEW outside blog.  From what I understand though, should you chose to 'upgrade' your current outside blog, you'll have to select a new domain name for it.  I do not know if the old domain name still directs to the updated blog or not--that is a question for BOB.  Good luck with it!

Kelsey:  You're welcome!  Creating one takes about 5 or 10 minutes, then it's just a matter of checking the box to include it on your outside blog just before you post a new blog!  It's REALLY not time consuming at all!  Take your time though and you'll get used to the automation and then realize that you're moving up the search engine page ranks!

Hi Chris!  Hey, thank you so much!  While you were at the conference, I was writing here!!!  I just don't sleep much and carry my laptop everywhere with me!  I manage to fit in 5 minutes every chance I get!  I think if you wait a week until you get caught up, you'll be JUST FINE!  They still have a few bugs to work out and I think next week, we'll see some clarification of this new program--this is REALLY exciting!

Samantha:  Don't worry about it!  Get your feet on solid ground and this will still be available to you.  It takes very little time to set up and then is pretty automatic after that.  Best of luck!

Frank:  Hey, not a bad idea!  How 'bout those CARDINALS?!  UGH!  I'm in a state of depression right now--just watched the Jake interview and at least he was man enough to admit that it WAS his fault!  He'll want to forget his 34th birthday for the rest of his life--and so will everyone in North and South Carolina!!!

Ryan:  This is another BOB question but, my gut tells me that you have to post it on AR but, not Localism, to get it to your outside blog.  I'll look into that for you.

Frank:  Can you say 'Tebow'?!  Hopefully the Panthers will go for the gusto in the drafts and put Jake on the back burner--he cost us that game.  I do feel bad for him but, they've got to make a 'business' decision here!

Your team is ready to win NOW. Kurt Warner and Kerry Collins will be free agents, I'd grab one of those if you can, Tebow is a project, if he comes out this year...

You don't think he'll come out this year?  I just had a conversation yesterday about Kerry Collins and how far he's come since he left the Panthers.  Unfortunately, there alot of bad blood between Charlotte and Kerry.  Some just don't easily forget!  For me, I think he's matured tremendously and I think he'd be good for us.  We'll see!

Hi Bill!  Oh, yes, it's SnagIt!  However, I've tweaked one with PhotoBucket too!  Just click to edit and you can do all kinds of things with it!

Here a link to one that I did that I added glitter text to and it turned out pretty cool--that was with PhotoBucket.com

Debe ... good article on how to set up custom outside blog.  It might be a good idea to have a separate article on BENEFITS ... and not there address how to do it.

Questions: What are benefits of setting up an outside real estate blog?   What are costs and disadvantages of such?

Thanks. Harrison

11:58am • #158
472,758 Points 76 Featured Posts Localism Sponsor Outside Blog

Hi Harrison!  Thank you!  I think that the benefits, as explained by Jorgen are that the search engine optimization is on over-drive with the new one and therefore will bring us more page views and hopefully more new consumers to our site.  The cost is $19/month for the super-charged one and the original one is free.  To me, the disadvantage was missing the opportunity for more Google juice, simple as that!!  Otherwise, the upgrade to the new outside blog also means that if you chose to upgrade the one you have and not add another one, then you can never go back to the free one.  For me, there is no reason NOT to add another one--they even give you a free domain name!

Debe,

Thank you for writing this however you have nothing to apologize for. Your questions and concerns were great and I'm glad I could help clarify things for you a little bit.

I took a brief glimpse of some of the comments here and saw you say: "that would be one for Bob to answer" a few times. If anyone on here has questions (and I know there are quite a few) please contact me directly through the 'contact' link on my profile page or even better, call me at 425.753.7340

Hi Bob!  I saw your comment a couple of days ago and just smiled--how many other business owners are so receptive to their client's needs?!  I really do appreciate your help and do feel badly that I made you feel that you had to phone me.  I was happy to help with this post--lots of emails and calls came from it too and I think most are pretty happy that they were able to get through the process rather painlessly!

I did bold your name so that you could easily see the questions that I could not answer.  Thanks again for everything!

Hi Clint!  I will and me TOO!  I LOVE Google juice and the more traffic that we get here, the better we ALL are!

Hi Dona!  I will and thank, me too!  I'm sure that the initial stage will take a bit of time to get going but, I wanted to be in on the ground floor!

Hi Debe,

I'd like to know how many people are up and running now with the new platform.  It would be great to see some examples of the upgraded blogs to check out the different templates.  If people could let us know their blog addresses that would be great.  I'm sure I'm not the only one curious as to how they look.  And also from those who have jumped on board, whether the new platform meets their expectations.  It sounds like there are lots of us just sitting on the fence, wanting to see what you are getting for your money.  I don't see that AR has provided any template examples except the Real Estate Company brand images.  P.S. How's the weather in Charlotte, and do you have writers cramp yet, lol??

Cheers

Hi Jenny!  That's a great idea!  I do know of one that I've checked-out, Jon's Outside Team Blog  and it looks fantastic.  I'd love to know how their click-throughs are looking now that it's been a week!  Perhaps they'll see this and let us know!

The weather outside is 'frightful'! It's very cold and we're expecting record-breaking temperatures Friday and Saturday of 9 degrees!  OH MY!

No, I don't have writer's cramp, I've got carpel tunnel!!!  (just kidding but, I can totally see how people get it!!)

Hi Debe,

We are having record lows here also.  It's 3 F. .  We are located an hour from Buffalo.  We do shopping trips there and to Erie, Pa. and outside Detroit, Mi.  Here is a photo I just took outside my living room window.   Brrr.  For now I'm just going to stick with my free Google blog.  It's simple, has widgets, easy to edit and the price is right.  If the new AR blog platform is amazing, I will for sure go for it.  Time will tell, I guess.  I have been doing other things to get my name on Google.  I have my website with Point 2 Agents.  They have a great presence on the web ( is that what you mean by Google juice?)  I just have the standard free website but I buy neighborhoods for $20. for 3 months in my community.  They auction them off for the professional users at a more expensive price but I wait until the first day of the next quarter and pick them up for $20.  It's great exposure.  If you google falgarwood or wedgewood creek I am usually close to the top on the first page as the neighborhood expert.  When I do the writeup for the neighbourhood for Point 2 I copy it over to AR Localism.  I have started to go to the different neighborhoods taking photos to add to the Localism site.  Then I put the photos on Flickr as Google seems to love them also.  Like you, I have joined Linkedin.  When I google my name jenny kotulk the Linkedin site usually comes up first.  Someone recently said to comment on other peoples blogs.  Funny as I see a couple of different comments I made have popped up  on Google.  Guess we better be careful what we say, eh?  Sorry, that's the Canadian coming out in me lol.  I think it may have been you that said just keep writing and you will get noticed.  A few months ago I had a call from RE/MAX Times Online who saw my blog on AR about decorating for the fall market.  They asked if they could run it.  What a nice surprise.  Media reports that I wrote when I was president of my real estate board in 2007 are still floating out there.  I have also invested in buying lots of domain names.  They are so cheap and I use some to direct to my website and some link to my blog.  For Canadians if you find a good one it's important to buy both the .com and the .ca so someone else can't compete.  I am loving AR since not many Canadians have found it yet and I am happy that I have had a head start.  Keep up the good work Debe.  I just bought the domain below that I may use for my blog.

Cheers

I can do a Google search (or Yahoo or MSN) on one of my neighborhoods and find the AR post, my outside blog and Localism--all of which have the same exact article--lined up side-by-side--all on page one!

Wow Debe!!!

Three spots on page one?  That's powerful.

P.S.  Thanks for the tutorial on the new custom blogs!  I don't need one now, but I might in the future.

I am having trouble with my posts hosting to my new outside blog. There are three missing. They have gone to all the other sites. I wonder if I have the NAME SERVERS correct.

Can you provide them.

Thanks, Janice

Debe - This was great! I used my original domain: SuwaneeTalk.com

Can I add an additional domain????

But  even now my posts are showing up now on my new "$19/mo" blog. Your tutorial shows: "OUTSIDE BLOG"

When I post, I have "INDIVIDUAL BLOG" ??? Is that why my posts are not showing up on my new customized blog? They show up everywhere else (Localism etc.) except my blog; and, I always link my articles to my website so this is very frustrating.

I have tried several times to have an individual blog...only to have glitches. The problem arises when you want to use an existing domain...especially if you have had it so long that you have no idea who the registrar is. Any hints?

Ryan:  You will check the box at the bottom of the screen when you're posting--if you're a member of a group blog, you'll have an additional box to post to.  If you are just posting to a second outside blog, you'll have an additional box to check for that as well.

Jenny:  I use Point2 as well and it does bring some good search engine 'juice'!  It's nearly a full-time job trying to get to the top of the search engines, isn't it!

Bruce:  You're working your way there!  You're definitely going to need one!!

Sonja:  This would be yet another 'outside' blog--other than your WP blog.  What you post to AR would be posted to your outside blog with a domain that points to your new blog.  You would still have to keep up with your WP blog too!  (That's what I do too!)

Janice:  This is a BOB STEWART question!  He'll be back around to assist you or you can phone him for a more immediate response.  His number is posted above (in the yellow comment box).  Best of luck!

Bruce & Mary:  Have fun with it!  I'm looking forward to the numbers rising!!  I'll let you know!

Jennifer:  Thank you and let us know if you have any questions!

Paula:  We'll see if BOB will answer this one!  If not, give him a call--he'll respond right away!

Rebecca:  Best of luck!  Let us know if you have any questions!

Zilkia:  Thanks and I would certainly wait to get going on AR, then move into the outside blog!  You can always go back to the bookmark!
