With all of the hype a while back about the Kodak V705 and its wide angle and dual lens, I hopped on the train and bought one.  It was a great- easy to use camera as many of us know.  But, after about 6 months, the main board crapped out on it.  It started taking fuzzy pictures. I couldn't seem to get it in focus, especially when the lighting was iffy.

It was fixed under warranty, but a few months ago it started acting up again....not under warranty anymore of course.  So I started searching around to find a camera with a comparable wide angle.  I was looking at the Nikon D40, but it was pretty expensive AND I was seriously intimidated by it.  The whole having to get special lenses and flashes with it...geez.  Did I really have time to learn all of it?

So one day on Facebook I was having a conversation about cameras and someone mentioned Canon.  I had not found one yet that could even compare to the V705 but I took another look around and ran across the Canon Powershot SX10 IS

It appeared through the description to have a similar wide angle, but what I loved!?  Was the fact that it is both point and shoot and manual.  It's sort of a beginner SLR.  I could buy it, use it right away and when I had time to learn the manual functions, I could. Sweet!

Better yet, It was over $200 cheaper than the Nikon when you include the additional lens that I would have needed.  So I bought it.

The first pictures I took with it were at dusk and after dark because I have never had a decent picture at night.  I met up with a client on The Waterway in the evening for dinner, and took some pictures before and after.  Here are a couple of them:

The pictures of the fountains were taken from atleast 300 yards away from on top of the bridge that you see in the 3rd picture.  The zoom on this thing is Unbelievable!  Oh, and I did not use a tripod on ANY of these.

After that I had a couple of people wanting to know about the camera, and yesterday someone on Twitter wanted to know if it was a wide angle.  I thought today would be a great day to test it out since I was headed over to a listing to take some photos.  So, how does it rank against V705 with the wide angle?

If you take in to consideration that the one with the V705 was taken a little more to the left, they look to be about the same.  The Canon actually has less of a glare which I like.

So far the Canon SX10 IS has been awesome!  I love it.!  It is bigger and can't fit in to a pocket but it is not huge.  The quality of the pictures has been amazing.  I'm still on the same AA Batteries from when I bought it about a month ago.  I really can't wait to learn more about it!  Plus, I'll take the FREE Photoshop class on XTrain.  :0)

If you are needing a new Real Estate Camera, you may want to check this one out.  I highly recommend it if you are wanting to go from Point N Shoot to Digital SLR.  Oooh. I forgot to mention.  It's says its supposed to take HD Quality Video, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Hi David,  I would love to show you a bathroom but I did not take one today.  :)  I'll take on and post it in the comments though.

The angles in the house I took pics of today were driving me crazy trying to get a decent shot. The wide angle is awesome, most of the time  :)

What a difference! And I have a wide-angle camera. It's great for real estate. And I can get those night time shots as long as I use the slow shutter speed, which means I have to use the tripod.

I would love to have a newer model with a longer range lens, but I'm broke =(

Hey Lisa,  I hear ya.  Money going out like crazy.  I probably could have used a tripod with the kodak and had better pictures, but who wants to carry a tripod when they are out with the family?  :)

Thanks Thesa,  I'm still using the V705 some, only in optimal lighting though.  Other than that the pictures turn out awful.  Also using flip and grabbing stills from it..for small cameras

Thanks for the review Stephanie. I am on my third Cannon. The current one is a Cannon  A-640 . I love it and have the larger sd memory card. My next one will probably be SX 10 though as I do like the wide angle factor not on the A-640.

Hi Herb,  I can't believe how much I like this camera.  Never had a Canon before, always Kodak.  We'll see how it holds up.  :)  Most last me about 1 1/2 years.  Hope this one lasts much longer.

The wide angle is good and the ZOOOOOM is unreal.  :)

I'm a Canon man myself, Stephanie.  The wide-angle capabilitie alone make a camera suitable for real estate use.  Nice review!
