4 Comments on Walmart makes easier living for Middletown Residents
Clifton, there are a lot of towns around here like that. Isn't it amazing what a nice big outlet like that can do for a community?
Hey, Clifton. I know that there are a lot of Wal-mart haters out there. But, we are not one them. Great to hear. Take Care.
Glad to hear that Walmart has been good for your economy. In our small town of 9000 we used to have several locally owned mom and pop stores. Two that I can think of that sold underwear and the like, since Walmart came in and put them out of business that is the only place in town where we can purchase underwear.
I wish I could say I've never been in a Walmart but I did go in one once in a pinch. We have very few in Eastern Massachusetts - in fact, I know of only one but perhaps there are more. We have an active group in Cambridge called Local First that advocates and promotes shopping locally - in part because your dollar stays in the community but also because of the impact of interesting, one of a kind businesses on quality of life. I think it is part of a group that started in Seattle. I know I prefer visiting or living in communities with lots of one-of-a-kind shops rather than chains or big boxes.
