Lake Ridge Library Info by Karen Kruschka

The library first opened in the lower level of Tacketts Mill in 1985.  Those of us who are now and were residents then remember well the Lake Ridge mural that was painted by a local artist.

However, there was a fire in 1986 that damaged the mural and also forced the closure of the library for one month.  It moved to an upper level location temporarily and in 1987 returned to its' original location.

However, it was again moved in 1995 to its' present location in the Fairfield Office Park.  Phew - that poor thing has had trouble setting up a permanent household!!!

Lake Ridge is a 38,000 person subdivision with over 7,000 residences.  It has many features that are normally found only in an incorporated city.  For example:

  • Commuter bus service to the Pentagon, Washington, DC and all National Capital Area work centers
  • Five elementary schools, middle school and senior high school
  • Fire and rescue services in the community
  • Three shopping centers

My husband and I have lived in Lake Ridge for 26 years and have 33 years full time experience in the Lake Ridge area.  If you are planning to set up a household and don't want all the problems experienced by the Lake Ridge Neighborhood Library we invite you to try our

Great Localism post. We have a small library in our community that is well supported and also has a loan program with the Downtown Austin Library so you can get anything available. Ours is very busy and they have a fun thing they do when you check books out. Each time you get a receipt for the book and the price it would be a the local book store along with a running tally of the books checked out through the year! By the end of 2008 we had saved just over $4,800!

I love looking at pictures and reading about Lake Ridge - it reminds me in many ways of Pinehurst - feels almost like home!

Russell  That is cool - I'm sure the bookstores don't support that idea :)  Karen

Great post for Localism!  It is always great to know what is located in or near a neighborhood.  A library is an incredible asset for knowledge.
