Brian,

I just listened to your pod-cast with Jeff. I enjoyed the one with the hard money brokers, too. How do you do you do these?

I'm curious about the software, not the interview, you do that very well.

Well, anyone who knows me, knows that I'm not really a propeller-head. It takes patient people to teach me how to use technology. If they can walk me mic through it, I can grasp it and use it. Greg Swann taught me how to purchase the right equipment and use it in about 15 minutes.

Here was my response to Bill:

Hey, Bill. It's actually quite simple and inexpensive.

I spend $50/month on GoToMeeting.com that has a conference call line. It wallows meeting attendees to see my computer and call into a conference line.

I record it with a Olympus Digital Voice Recorder WS-300M about $100 at Radio Shack.

Finally, I use a mini-pickup mic to record the phone call from Olympus which costs $20.

Sorry. An MP3 converter if you wish to make it iPod compatible costs $20. I'm not sure how to "host' it. I know that Greg hosts our podcasts on his server. I found Switchpod which offers to host it for a fee.

It would be cool if Active Rain could host podcasts.

I use an MP3 recorder, sometimes I record it through my computer via skype. If I need to convert it to MP3 I use stitch, which works with Audacity. Audacity is a great program for editing once you get the hang of it. Everything I use is free except for the recorder, which I only use if I need to record outside of my office. Think I paid $65.00 for it, and it is an olympus digital recorder. Most of the time I host for free on Odeo because I am lazy. I can host them right on my blog which is easy enough to do. On typepad all you have to do is upload the file and link to it. The way you do it Brian makes sense. - - oops I do use a microphone both when I record through my computer and when I use the recorder. I think the sound is much better with a mic. I think I picked mine up at an office supply store for $10.00.

My first or second post on AR last summer was a podcast, and one last Fall. Just upload to odeo and paste the code in your blog and a little player with a play button shows up.

I use a standard Mic on my computer along with semi-sophisticated software (easy to use, but amplifies and minimizes pops, etc.). I do this to record my answering machine messages (the computer answers the phone if I don't).

Why do I say this? The same software that answers the phone can record the entire phone conversation. I just needs to reset the record length to make sure it covers the whole thing. This works really well, although I have not tried it for podcasting or interview type material (yet).

You know I am a techy as a hobby, so I have most everything I need to do major stuff, but I don't have the time to sit down and learn it all right now.

Yes you can host it for free. I just added onto my last comment you can now paste the code for the player into your AR post. It isn't really hosting it is uploading a file just like you would with a picture. it is just a matter of having a place on the internet to stick the file.

Not a podcaster. I did it for awhile and kind of gave up. I need scripts because I say ummmm too much. :)

Yes you can insert music into audacity. Any sound can be inserted. Any recording can be changed and rearranged.

Pod casts are just another piece of technology that keeps us moving further ahead of the curve.

Brian - I could do a post on this but not until tomorrow. Like i keep saying I am a lazy blogger. i do everything for free and as quickly as possible. :) I am not really sold on pod casting. i can read faster than I can listen and type faster than I can talk. Pod casts take time. I do have an ipod and never leave home without it but tend to use if for music or longer broadcasts that I can play while I am walking my dog. That does save me some time. Seems like I almost always have a phone in my ear. I have 4 in my office and two that I take with me so it is hard to listen to anything.

I have been podcasting for a year now. I get the script thru my website provider. I like the fact that I have a years worth of podcasts to hand to a buyer are seller on a disc that is branded to me.

Brian - that Krafty Kristal came up with a look that really works for you. In her spare time she also vandalized virtual bus benches. The woman is gifted no lie, but it is a good idea to keep an eye on her.

FWIW, we use PodPress to host podcasts. Very robust, but bug-afflicted right now, so we're holding at version 7.4, where the current release is 7.9.

I do audio editing with Audacity, although I'm thnking of upgrading to a pro editor. I use a variety of semi-pro softeware for video, not that I tax it much.
