Drowning In A Sea of Meaninglessness

By

DrowningMy day started off ok and proceeded to get worse as it went along. Ever have those days? For me I labeled it as a day where one was

Drowning In A Sea of Meaninglessess.

I will explain that here shortly. But remember when days don't go as planned there are lessons to be learned and perhaps corrective steps to take to fix things or at least give you a better understanding if it happens again to you.

I have been blessed or cursed depending how you look at it with big picture assessment of things. I can figure out the whole view of things very fast, while others get completely mired in the details.

That being said, the first part of my day had me overhearing agents talking about other people in their lives. Idle gossip. Nothing to be proud of or wanting to be around. NOT meaningful at all to me. Next, the talking heads on the radio discussed ad nauseum whether this designated Illinois senator should be seated or not having been appointed by the impeached governor. How this affects my life I am not sure? Toss that story aside. Then there's the phone spammers that get your cell phone number off the Internet and track you down and they swear they can increase your business web site search engine optimization, if you only come up with the dough monthly for them. Then flipping through some TV channels I land on the brainless Bachelor TV show, where this guy eliminates 15 of 30 totally beautiful women, and the rejected ones have to understand what was wrong with them. This show is on a third grade level or below. How do I get that Bachelor job anyway?

Woman Underwater

Meaningless, nonsensical images and messages fill our times these days it seems. It must be we have so many sources of information and the rapid speed it is delivered to us. Plus everyone is trying to make a buck, so for entertainment sake anything is fair game, relevant, intelligent or not.

The lesson to be learned is to remember what is important to you. Remember what you are trying to accomplish today.

Focus on your stuff.

Tune out their stuff.

Do not drown in water from someone else's pool. It can hurt your head sometimes what comes at you. But you be in control. Screen calls that you don't return. You have my permission.

In life you were meant to breathe.

Hi Gary,

You know it's days like that when I feel blessed in many ways...mostly not to be a part of that. As for seeing the big picture, that works for me too.

BTW my friend (if I'm at liberty to call you that) you need to be writing professionally.

Hi Gary, so true ! I have to take exception to "The Bachelor" however!! Oh how I like to watch those shows and guess who they will pick! Why do they pick them?? Watch the other people- who agreed to be on National Television cry and whine : "Oh they should have picked me"!! Very interesting study of the human heart/condition. The rest of it----- I totally agree with you! Hope your tomorrow is a better day :-)

Thom and Ray: Office groupies and cliques are a terrible thing to see. I love that journal idea and I have the book here in January, just need to start making notes.

Sheldon: I just have a million stories in my head. It will take awhile to get them all out : )

Lynda: At liberty to be my friend? Are you kidding? We are joined at the hip : ) Thanks for the encouragement on the writing.

Mary: The Bachelor is fun watching the dynamics of the people I agree. It's just shallow on beauty is my point.

Hi Gary!  Funny that I should read this after drowning in a sea of telemarketers today!  I have to tell you that I received a call from someone wanting to improve my search engine placement and that they had searched for me and found that I was not near page 1!  OOOHH, after two calls back-to-back about this, I decided to give this guy a run for his $$!  I asked him what term he was searching for that he could bring me to page 1, #1 spot.  I said, I'm right in front of my computer now--let's search this thing together!  So, I gave him one of my longtail keywords and said, "If you can get me better placement with this term, you're hired!"  As he looked it up, I continued to let him know that I do understand SEO and I do not think that he can get me higher in placement than the top four spots on page 1!!  HONESTLY Gary, he was speechless!!  I asked that he take me off his list and hung up without another word from him!

I was SO sad that I hadn't done that little 'test' with the first two trying to sell me useless SEO!

Have a great weekend...

Gary... yes, focus can be very tough in today's world....  yet I find it easy because I ignore many of the things that you mentioned. Yet, I did watch the bachelor, because it brings me laughter, when women cry and say... but I loved him... I was so right for him, how could he. Do many of them know what love is?  Or is it lust?

Anyhoo....  focusing is key and to juggle this with the many distractions is tough for many. Good post.

Debe: Glad you got to run the gauntlet with the SEO. You gave the salespersona clinic on it.

Jeff: Yes the bachelor is good mindless entertainment. Boo Hoo. He picked her instead of me. Focus is the trick to carve through all the clutter.

Richard: Distractions seem more prevalent than the direction we want to go.

JL: Push aside is a good action!

i really enjoyed and can completely relate to this blog.  People can really waste so much of their time on mindless television, internet games, and gossip.

Words of wisdom. After reading this, I thanked God for allowing us to work at home and be protected from all the Ecclesiastical meaningless stuff!!!!! Not to mention all the gas we save...

Think of it like driving a car and you look off the side while going down the highway and your hands on the wheel instinctually drift that way until you hear the snap strips bringing you back on course... in Hebrews 2 we are warned about keeping our ears on what we heard... the Good News..

1We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

God Bless in the New Year Gary!

Hi Gary, I think this post was right on the money. It seems like some are truly falling into a sea of nothingness. I think they live their lives that way, like zombies...look at TV, listen to the phone calls coming in, listen to the junk on the radio.  Unfortunately, sometimes we get sucked into a day of it, but luckily we can shake it off and move on. Great post!

I reside in an insulated world most of the time, Gary. It's my secret for sanity. Rarely watch TV, don't listen to the radio much less talk radio, and I don't hang out in large groups of people -- which is why I rarely get a cold. I focus on the tasks at hand. Oh, and there's always Bejeweled.

Gary,

I feel the same way sometimes. It takes an effort to sift through and ignore the meaningless. The treasures and valuable people, moments and encounters totally make up for it, though.

Gary - i know what you mean, I have had days where I felt I should have stayed in bed. I call these days a "total waste of make-up"!  It usually gets a laugh out of some one. And, then I can feel like something good came of the day !

Gary- Wow, do I ever know what you mean here. I have this one agent who thinks I am her sounding board...... She will call me and complain about other agents and other offices. She is not from my office but another office. I really like her, but sometimes I just can't bear to hear another negative thing....  I find myself trying to make excuses for the other agents she is talking about. I do not want to be rude, but sometimes--NO all the time__I wish she would call someone else and complain to them.
