When I purchased my new MAC late last year, one of the programs I used quite a bit at first was iMovie 08 which was a real dumbed down version of iMovie 06. Although you could quickly put together some "down-and-dirty" movies, the downside was lack of editing power and there were no plug-ins available to upgrade the product. The only alternative was to use iMovie 06 and purchase 3rd party plug-ins in order to implement advanced editing features or to purchase a full-blown movie editor for about $1200.00. Quite steep if you are just wanting to implement "green screen" or other low-end technology for your videos.
Well, it seems as Apple has admitted the error of their ways to the MAC community and are releasing an upgraded version called iMovie 09 which is part of the iLife 09 package. The iLife package comes with upgrades to iPhoto, iDVD, iWeb, Garage Band, and of course, iMovie. You can read the latest propaganda here... The cost of the upgrade runs about $90 complete with shipping and tax which is still cheaper than the cost of a full blown movie editor. BTW - iMovie 09 is not available on the new MAC's yet! You have to pay an extra $10 to get the upgrade. Kinda sux since you are paying mega bucks for a MAC to begin with...
I'll keep you posted on how well this works when I get my upgrade sometime next week...
Michael, you go boy!
