IS THE SUCCESS OF YOUR BUSINESS DRIVEN BY ACTION OR RESULTS?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty Central Delaware

There are a few ways to measure your success in any area of your life. Your business is what I'll discuss today. In particular, there are 2 measurements that stand out more than others.

Your business can be measures by action; in other words, the things you do to make it happen. (or not!) So then ACTION is the measures you take to get business but you  can't really measure your business by how much or what you do!

The real measuring stick is RESULTS! If you have all kinds of systems in place and your fingers in every pot, and you're not getting RESULTS, its time to either streamline because you're

a) doing too much to get anything done

b) what you're doing just isn't working

c) what you say you're doing and what you're doing are two horses of a different color

Getting results is the name of our game. Sure you can talk to 50 people a week but how many did you convert into clients - transactions - ...?

Results are a direct corelation to a fulfilled purpose, so if you don't know your purpose, you'll never get results. Well at least not the results you have the potential to get!

Try it! I think you'll like the RESULTS!

Hi Jon

Excellent blog, I believe it's the actions you take to get you to your desired results.

Good luck and success

Results depend on more than action... they depend upon EFFECTIVE action.  Results are the only reliable measure, but we can usually trace them to effective activity (or not).

I agree with you but I think a key element involved with this begins with believing in yourself.  We become what we think.

You are so right. Monitoring results against actions is key and something I need to do more of. Sometimes I am overwhelmed by all I am doing yet if I stopped for a moment and analyzed the results of all my action I am sure I would be less overwhelmed. Thanks for the reminder.

Great post Jon! You are right on...there's a difference between "talking" all the time about what you're "planning" to do, and actually doing some of the things you say you're going to do. I think you just inspired a thought.

Actions in the business don't much matter if they don't show up as results.

Why not actions with results or results with action. Some good ideas and I hope to put a few to use.

Finding out those actions that actually create business is the key.  Being busy and spinning your wheels is a big pitfall of the real estate business.

Extremely practical and good advice Jon!  I agree wholeheartedly.  I think if we make wildly happy references from clients, our business will thrive.  These are the results I aim for.

True enough...tooo many agents think that becuz they wrote a marketing plan...and then it put in the desk drawer, file cabinet....etc....they ARE prepared...if you don't do a tweak as needed here and there....your results will be less than stellar...good post ! Happy 09 !

Great post, Jon.  I feel that way a lot of the time.  We are always trying out new systems and tinkering with the latest fads in technology.  After a while we have to stop and think, is this really producing results for us?  If not, we need to save time and stop doing it.

John: Thank you. Of course we all hope that our actions lead to good results. The key, obviously, is not to sit around and wait for things to come to us. Rather, we need to pursue opportunities and measure what gets us positive results. I wish you well this year!

I'm not sure I agree with being exclusively results focused.

There are some things that are out of your control.

What you can control is the process and actions you take.

And given you are actually performing the right processes and actions, the results will ultimately follow.

Good blog Jon, I agree we need to laser focus on the results we desire, although to achieve them I also believe there has to be a high action/activity level. Not just busy work, but focused, well planned prospecting/$$ poductive activities. Plan, Do, Review to get the results/outcomes we want. Thanks for the reminder and perspective.

Congratulations Julie! Now what did you do different? If anything at all. to secure that transaction? That is what I mean by focusing on the result. Once you get it, analyze the action/proces and compare it to the ones that nothing happened, then you will be able to improve your conversion rates.

Jon - It is really important to measure ACTIONS as well as RESULTS.  One can quantify both and use them in their business model and plan.  Great post !
