juggling sacramento real estateAlmost everybody I talk to lately says they are overwhelmed with business. Escrow companies are swamped with foreclosures and refinances. Agents are showing property like crazy to first-time home buyers. Sellers are calling to obtain pre-listing advice and prepare for the Sacramento spring real estate market.

In my little world, there are days when my phone doesn't stop ringing. My publisher sent a request late Friday for an updated biography and a list of individuals who may endorse my short sale book. I don't have time to think about contacting people for an endorsement nor do I have any ideas for PR. I have listings to take, escrows to close, buyers to show property to, blogs to write, cats to feed, articles to write for my homebuying web site, not to mention dealing with 2008 taxes -- and there's this HGTV woman who is asking about whether I'll consider doing some remodeling show.

It's rare that I get a day off, which is how I stay organized. I juggle a lot of stuff. So, when I start to feel overwhelmed or stressed out, I put on my gardening gloves and head outdoors. It's amazing how stress can fade away simply because I'm focused on nature. Yesterday, in a series of breaks from the computer, I pruned all my rose bushes and a butterfly bush. Well, I shouldn't call it a bush. It's about 12-feet tall.

Some people go to the gym; others go shopping; some knead bread, ride bicycles, visit with friends, work on a hobby, but I pull weeds. Go figure. I'll tell you one thing it does apart from improving the yard, it makes every muscle in my body ache. That way I can spend more time thinking about how to relieve sore joints than how much real estate stuff I have to finish. Nothing that a hot soak in the spa and a couple of ibuprofen won't fix.

And before I forget, I'd like to thank my AR-friend from Flushing, New York (and Club-Chaos fame), Carolyn Tann-Starr, for calling me yesterday and helping me with a technical question -- she is simply brilliant, and a hoot to boot.

Elizabeth, sounds like you handle stress very well.  Soing something physical that you enjoy and is also productive - can't get much better than that!

A Realtor friend in my office ALWAYS makes home-made chocolate chip cookies and brings them in to share, when she's stressed!

We are experiencing the same thing in Queen Creek Area of Arizona.  The good news is property is now affordable, and loans are not being give out to dead-beats.

We have to force timeoff, to keep our stress levels under control.

Elizabeth, I totally understand, unfortunately I haven't had time to relax much, though I know I should.  My most relaxing activity these days is falling asleep on the couch early.

Elizabeth- proving once again that real estate is local! But in the same way your market last year is affecting ours now, hopefully your present market will trickle down to us within a few months from now.

Elizabeth, I go to the gym and play in the dirt with the weeds. We all need that "little" escape now and then.

Elizabeth - I wonder if the Sacramento Association of Realtors wouldn't endorse your book?  OR maybe CAR or NAR?

When I get stressed, I head for the swimming pool, cook, and garden.  Funny thing though, in recent years I don't get as stressed as I once did :-)  About 3 years ago, I made a decision to name my battles more wisely.  I threw out a lot of activities I no longer felt were productive and emotionally rewarding, and embrassed more activities, which were.

Elizabeth, I love the gardening too! It is totally therapeutic for me. I like getting my hands into God's earth and watch the miracle of life grow from its nutrients...

Anyhow, we all need a break now and then. Especially a power blogger such as yourself! Relax!

It's amazing that you have time to get out in the yard!  I do that sometimes in the summer because it seems you can't find anyone to take care of a stupid flower bed.  You have to pull your own weeds in Arkansas.

Ya gotta pull your own weeds in California, too, Barbara. You know, my husband asked me the other day: "Do you know a Barbara Duncan?" I asked why, and he said a Barbara Duncan sent him something on Facebook, hahahahhahaha.

Good idea, Myrl, I should ask. NAR already has posted many of my links to my homebuying.about.com site on its homepage, so that might be a good place to start. Thank you. I never thought of that!

Off to the spa with me now.
