1. Connect on the Internet with MeetupThe Internet is a wonderful thing.  It really had taken 'connecting with others' to a whole new world.  (I would never have connected or reconnected with so many people if it wasn't for blogging and places like  Twitter and Facebook).

If you are looking to connect in the same ways as Twitter and Facebook AND wish to add the dimension of connecting in person, as in meetings and get togethers, try Meetup - "Use the Internet to get off the Internet."

Meetup's  motto is:  "Maybe it's time for a little less face-to-screen and a little more face-to-face."  So if this is what you are looking for: Getting together  in person to be social OR to belong to a supportive networking group that actually meets - then this place just may be for you.  This is really is a nice an easy way to find people with common goals.

Meetup has information about groups that meet all around the world.  Once you log onto this site, all you have to do is type in the the topic or interest you are looking for, the country you are from and if you live in the U.S. for example - type in the zip code of where you live.  A search will be conducted within 25, 50, etc., or more miles of the zip code.  Up will come all of the groups that meet on that topic in your area.  If per chance there is not a group that suits your liking, start your own.

The possibilities are endless on who you can meet, socialize, network and build relationships with.

Here are just some of the groups that I found in my area on Meetup:

Hi Marlene, I have heard of Meetups but networked with other groups face to face like LinkedIn and of course meeting Active Rain people live. Thanks for the links. If you try it, let us know your experience.

Hi Marlene, Yes, I am a member of MeetUp. The only trouble is now trying to find the time to go to all the invitations it keeps sending me.

THANK YOU EVERYONE for commenting on my post. For some reason, I do not have the option to bold-type or underline-type in my comments, I have NO options. I can not skip lines. If I do, when I submit the comment - it all just crams up into one space, I don't know why. I wonder if I am stuck in this HTML vortex or something. I have to contact the AR gods I guess.

I heard of a new one the other day called Unique 3 and you join and get a name tag and if you are wearing the name tag it gives anyone the "okay" to approach you in a Panera, or local meeting spot. The theory is that meetings are held in these types of sites and people wait there for their next meeting...and they could be meeting others in the same situation. I think it is an idea that might take off...actually talking to people face to face!

I have  seen the meetup site come up online while looking around at some other social networking sites. I can't say I have ever participated though.
