Art invitation

I received a box in the mail.  It was a neat little white box that was easy to open.

When I opened it it was filled with sawdust and a small card lay on top of the sawdust.

What is this?  Did they forget to put the object in?  Is this a joke?  Where's my gift????

Then I read it.  It was an invitation to attend the preview of our White County wood artists's exhibit.  They put out a lot of wood shavings!  It is to be Thursday January 15 at the Searcy Art Gallery.

BRILLIANT!  The invitation went from being just another invitation to one that excited me.  I'm going!  And whoever thought up the clever invitation method gets my applause!!

Barbara, this is creative, impactful, affordable marketing that packs a wollop! It's good. This is the type of advertising I use to do in my younger days with a creative marketing group. I give the execution an A+. Fun, and thanks for showing us this.

Deb, you were in advertising?  That's a fine background!  I was very impressed with this mailout.

Thats Genius !... I think it may sway me to actually attend the event if I received something ingenious and creative like that !

... that's funny though to think of you opening up the box and serching around like a box of Crackerjacks for the 'gift' !!!!!

Barbara:  Now that's what I call high fiber.  I am thinking perhaps by adding some sliced bananas, a whole lot of Sweet'n'Low or Equal, some whole milk (with something like this... that 2% stuff will not do) and perhaps wearing a blindfold... you might be able to package this as "all natural" high-fiber breakfast cereal.  Whaddya think ?

Barbara - makes me wish I were visiting my in laws in Batesville so I could make it to the exhibit. Very creative way to advertise.

Sheldon, I love the little laughing face and the Crackerjacks' reference.  That is exactly how I was looking through the sawdust!

Charles, good advice!

Karen Anne, I think you are as clever as the ones who sent the invitation!  I love the idea!  Wonder if any of my visiting animals would eat it?  Ummmm

James, I thought it creative enough to put on this blog and share.  : )

Mike, just make a special trip!!!

And wood shavings don't cost a lot to mail, I assume. Very clever marketing.

Elizabeth, the box was actually fun of the shavings but I'd dumped most in the trash until I thought about putting the invitation on my blog.  They paid $1.51 each for mailing, which is more money than a stamp but there are not that many members.

Barbara,

That looks like what you get when you let Nutsy shred the paper.

Steve, I almost expected Nutsy to be in the box.  Or a dead Raven.  LOL

Thanks you all for the compliments on the invitation. It was fun to do, and as many pointed out--not too expensive for the Arts Council. If you are wondering, I do teach graphic design at Harding University and do some freelance work on the side.

Daniel, thanks for stopping by my blog and for the invitation which was excellent blog material.  I graduated from Harding U with an art degree so I really appreciate the arts.  You're doing a great job with the Arts Council.
