Out and about Living AnnapolisOut and about Loving Annapolis

The US Naval Academy

Naval AcademyHaving grown up in Annapolis, the Naval Academy has always held a very large part in my childhood memories. A sea of white uniforms in the summer and another sea of dark uniforms in the winter would converge on my parent's office supply store on weekends as the Mids shopped  for those items that made their studies easier.

The Navy football games in the fall were always a coveted ticket where tailgating and laughter rang out among the revelers attending. And the streets of Annapolis were jammed for a time as the middies marched to the stadium located outside the gates of the academy.

The Naval Academy has always been a favorite spot among residents and visitors alike, to run, walk, stroll or bike along the beautiful and scenic Severn River or to watch the Blue Angels fly over during Commissioning Week (called June Week when I was growing up).

One of my very favorite pastimes as a youngster was sitting along the seawall watching the boats make their way to the Annapolis Harbor. Since 9/11 some of the freedoms I enjoyed as a child are more restricted today but none the less, the Naval Academy is still a great place to visit.

I moved from Eastport to the beach a few years ago. I still keep my membership to the Officers Club as it is nice place to go when the crowds are large.
