Success, what does that mean for you?  Albert Schweitzer once wrote, "Success is not the key to happiness.  Happiness is the key to success.  If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."

Here's 7 simple steps I came across that I trust will help you achieve your happiness and success.

  1. Believe In Yourself:  Identify your natural talents and abilities. Do what you enjoy adn what you do best.  Focus on your strengths and not your weaknesses.
  2. Develop a Vision:  Define your path and start working your plan.  Write down a vision for you and your life.  Be Specific! What do you want out of life!
  3. Develop Good Habits: Happy and successful people choose good habits.
  4. Show Gratitude: The happiest people are also teh most grateful.  Count your blessings frequently and you'll quickly start seeing a change in you and the world around you.
  5. Take a Chance!: Seize the opportunity!  Success and happiness will not come to those that sit and wait for the moment!  Be a doer!
  6. Give to Others: Studies reveal that the happiest people are also the most generous.  Do, say or give something nice to another and see how your own life improves.
  7. Take Responsibility:  You hold the key to your future.  Take responsibility for your actions, or lack thereof. Choose well in what you do and say.  Ultimately, you are the master of your destiny.  You choose your own future by the decisions you make and the actions you take!

What do you think?

David good reminders of what we know, but so often forget.

Take Responsibility - that's the tough one, I'd really rather blame someone else.

Excellent list! It's been a long day and there's still A LOT of work to be done here at the office for me. Reading this post and sorting through the list makes me feel a little better because it reminds me of the good track I'm on.

Steve, I find that one easier as I do it more often. But you are right, it's so easy to blame someone else.  I need the reminder as well!  Thanks for commenting.

David, you are so right.  If you love what you are doing then you will be successful.  I am so glad I love my profession.

05/08/2007 01:30 PM by Dianne Barody - Pensacola Florida Real Estate (Century 21 AmeriSouth Realty)

Dianne, it really is good to have a profession you love.  I was reading some of your posts and notice your Golden Rule post.  I've been there so many times it's not funny.  However, I will still live by the Golden Rule, "treat others as you want to be treated".  I can sleep at night and I don't have to worry about meeting someone and feeling good about the way I treated them, no matter how they treated me.  That's just the way I want to live my life, I will try my best to go the extra mile.  I'm not boasting, I'm just being honest.

My fortune cookie said, "Success is getting what you want.   Happiness is wanting what you get".   I believed it.

Others (taped to my monitor) include:

  • "Pray for what you want, but work for the things you need".
  • "Idleness is the holiday of fools".
  • "If you cannot win, make the one ahead of you break the record".

David -- your seven steps offer a path to success, and add some meaning to life.  Showing gratitude, giving to others, taking personal responsibility for your own success -- these are great themes for fortune cookies, too!   Good luck.   May 2007 be your best year yet!
