Columbia Neighborhood, Bellingham, WA

The Columbia Neighborhood has become one of the areas most sought after location in the last few years. Its location places it within a convenient access point to all areas of Bellingham; the Downtown Business District, Northwest and Birchwood neighborhoods, Broadway and Cornwall Parks and a short drive to the Bellingham airport. Owners can drive, ride their bicycle or walk to all of these convenient locations and get there rather quickly.

Homes in this area vary in size and age, the Columbia Neighborhood has a style for anyone. Are you are looking for large old world homes, we've got those.  How about smaller yet quaint homes built in the early 1900's, we have those as well. Ranging from 700 square feet up to around 2600 square feet you can find something that is just right. These homes are situated on narrow roadways in criss-cross formation, some with alley access, making through traffic minimal.

Be fore-warned, this is a close knit neighborhood so homes don't sell cheaply or often. Maybe it is the excellence of the Columbia Elementary School that boasts with old world charm and new technologies. The Columbia Elementary School has excellent faculty and well-laid grounds for the children to enjoy. There is no bus service for its children so morning and afternoon you will find parents and children walking or riding their bicycles to school. Charming, isn't it?! Perhaps the interaction of children and parents each morning during their daily drop-off ritual is what brings this community together.

Monthly neighborhood meetings are held for the Columbia Neighborhood residents to collaborate and speak their minds about community functions and concerns.

Hi Angela.  I didn't know Chuck offered me as a consultant until just now.  What a surprise.  Indeed, I'm a local through and through and could help you with any Bellingham history items.  I have a fondness for neat, old buildings and neighborhoods, and Eldridge/Columbia is about as venerable as you can get.  The Eldridge Historical Society and Whatcom Museum would more than likely have some great photographs and information for you.

In your post,  you lauded Columbia Elementary.  My mother actually taught there for a handful of years in the late '70s and early '80s.  The families all seem to be involved and appreciate this area, making it all quite tight knit.
