In the short time I’ve been on Active Rain, I’ve met some interesting people.
Some really interesting people.

Just from reading their posts I can tell what makes them tick.

I can pick out the smart ones (Lenn Harley) scarecrow brains

and the fun ones (Cecily Parks).  haha funny

shakespeare

I can see that some people are more eloquent speakers writers than others (Richard Weisser or Gary Woltal)

and some people have the ability to touch me more,
even if the post doesn’t look quite as pretty (Kenneth Cole).

I can see who I would like to hang out with and have a beer beer mug

Champagne

and those who would probably be more comfortable getting to know each other better over a glass of Dom Perignon.

I’ve also come across more than a few people who would like you to think they are Dom Perignon when deep down they are Budweiser.  Know what I mean?

How closely does YOUR internet personality match who you really are?

I’m very active socially on Facebook and for a while wasn’t sure I wanted Professional JoAnna and Social JoAnna to mix.  Then I realized that Social JoAnna is the core of who I am.  Having said that, the first thing I did was head right over to Facebook and clean up my profile!

Like everything in life, there needs to be a balance.  I think it is important to be genuine in everything you do.  It shows.  If you don’t feel it from your nose to your toes, people can tell.

Greg Nino

I’m a huge fan of Greg Nino's Blog.  Not only because it is chock full of his meaningful real estate insights, but because it entertains me.  It tickles me.  It is so genuine on so many levels that it never fails to make a personal connection.  There is no question that if I were looking for a home in Houston, I’d want to call Greg… and then it hit me…

You may not please all of the people all of the time, but by being yourself, you will connect with people who want to do business with YOU.  You will attract people who see the value in what YOU have to offer.  YOU will set yourself apart just by being yourself.

“Always be a first-rate version of yourself,
instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.”

Welcome Jo.  I'm fairly new to AR and I've met a lot of professionals.  A lot of professionals that I would love to work referrals with.  Check out my group, "100 Days to Change" and tell me what you think about the idea.

JoAnna;  thank you for your kind words.  BTW, Great post.  I am pleased that we connected.  I try to be "just me".  I'll connect with some, and not with others.  So be it.  Can't please everyone.  I can't be someone I'm not, or something I'm not. But the people I do connect with I value very much.  Hope to be of help in some way to all.  If I have a good idea and it is profitable to others, good.  And BTW, friends, if I say something in the wrong way, please correct me.  I know I'm not perfect.

What a really great post ... and this "I’ve also come across more than a few people who would like you to think they are Dom Perignon when deep down they are Budweiser." was very funny.  I do however now wonder what was over on your facebook profile!! :D  You're gettin' a flag from me :)

This is very true Joanna...if you try to be something that you are not the consumer will easily pick up on it when they finally get to meet you.

Thanks Robert - I like your blog as well.  Sad that there are folks out there that don't write from their hearts.  You can't pull that off for long.

Paul - Thanks for putting "100 days to change" on my radar.  I'll be sure to check it out soon!

Kenneth - I like what you say and how you say it.  I also like what you choose to post about.  I just wish you would post to more groups so you can get more people commenting.  That will make for some good conversations.

Steve - I really didn't take much out of the profile.  I just try to control some of the language!  LOL.  I'm ok with the whole world knowing I was the life of the party in high school!  Some things never change!

Bill - I've learned that clients who love me, love all of me.  No reason to not be exactly who I am from the get go.

This is a lovely sentiment and I agree with your comparisons. We do have a personality here and it usually shows in our blogs. Some humorous and some very heavy!!!

See you in the Rain!

JoAnna,

You are absolutely right. It is so fun 'getting' to know someone by being able to see their personality through their writing. I know exactly where to go to read for fun, education, inspiration, and market trends!

Hope you are having a great week. Sorry I have been away.

Glad to see you back Cherimie. I hope you are doing ok.

You are a blogger (person) I would absolutely label "genuine."  I feel I get to know a little bit more about you with each post and that is how it should be!  Draws the reader in!

Wow! Thanks for mentioning me in your post. Oh no, now the pressure to be funny is on! I don't know about Dom Perignon, but I've always wanted to be crème brûlée...but I guess I'm just Jell-O....Jell-O is funny, right??? I learned early on here on the rain to just be yourself and not try too hard. You, my blogger friend, are definitely sincere with no brag or strut. You are always "just JoAnna". That's what makes your blog shine bright among the AR stars!

Hi JoAnna!
You never disappoint!  Your post has a wonderful insight into what blogging should be.  To really get all out of it that you can, you must do more than just read.  You have to put your mind into it and really "listen" to what someone is saying.  You make that so easy to do.  Thanks!

"Just JoAnna"...  Why I think you've come up with the new title for my blog!

Cecily, maybe it would've been better to describe you as a girl who likes to have fun.  Your posts are fun and through them I get to see YOUR sense of humor.

Paula, thank you so much for your kind words.  I enjoy your blog as well!

Hey Jo, this post was very enjoyable to read.

It left me wondering, which one am I?

Maybe a little of each?

I don't know.

What do you think?  : )

Keep up the good work!

Tony, since I know you personally, I already KNOW you're genuine!

I hear your voice in your "Tony Tours the Town" posts and it feels like you are talking right to me.  You're definately not hiding behind any Realtor Facade!

Great post, yes sometimes it is difficult to switch between social and professional.  I think we need to have a blance between the two.

I agree, balance is important. I guess it's all a matter of personal preference. Coming from my former industry of broadcasting & the entertainment biz, I know how rough it can get when your personal & biz worlds collide and NEVER shut off. So now I try to still be "everywhere" but just a little more cautious about giving myself a little breathing room. But that's just what works for me. Another thing I agree on is, always being ourself 24/7. Even if that means showing the many different sides of ourselves. :)

Glad u posted this!

I have the tendency to just be myself regardless of where I am. That goes for here on AR as well. It seem like the best way to go.
