Most Boring Birthday Ever or A New Begining

By

I just had my 40th birthday recently.  It was a very quiet party.  It was on a Saturday this year, so I obviously needed to watch some great football games.  I just hung out at my house with my wife and two dogs.  We had cupcakes.  The football was awesome and so were the cupcakes.

Since my birthday is always so close to New Year's I kind of use that as my deadline to my New Year's Resolutions.  I give myself until the end of January to make sure everything is in writing and do my best to hit my goals.  My wife does the same thing as well.  Most people make a list like lose 10 pounds and that is it.  I try to take a more holistic look at things and break them down by categories.

Let me give you some examples of the catagories that I use.

  • Travel
  • Business
  • Health
  • Organization
  • Relationship
  • Financial
  • Home
  • Education
  • Social
  • Spiritual

I then break down these areas in greater detail and make concrete goals.  Many of these categories overlap and have the benefits of synergy.  (Yes, I used that word in my first blog woo hoo!)

For example under travel this year I have go white water rafting, go snow mobiling, the World Series of Poker (this will be my fifth year), and going to Florida.  Hey if you can't have fun or make enough money in this industry what the hell are you doing in this industry?  These items have synergy in that obviously it ties into spending quality time with my wife, it also helps keep me motivated on the financial and business so we can afford to do these things.  The trip to Florida will hopefully have us staying with a friend of the family at a place that could easily be one of those exclusive vacation homes (like Steve Case's company charges $250K just for membership).  She is also a potential investor or if things go bad maybe just a sale for a luxury ski condo in Colorado.  I also plan to try to meet the great floridabuilder when I am there (Readers of the Motley Fool know who I am talking about).  He is truly one of the brilliant minds in the Real Estate industry.  Even if not all of the Florida trip works out like I have planned now the St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Tampa area is awesome.

While it was a fairly boring birthday my wife and I have a bunch of big plans this year.  It was so dull lame compared to some of the past parties I have had in the past I was happy to be here.  Based on the wild and crazy times I have had in the past some people are amazed I made it this far.  My wife and I are planning the best year ever.

If you are an investor or home buyer or seller in Metro Denver come along and let's have a fun time.

PS.  It's not to late to make your Resolutions for the New Year.  Make it a good one.

LOL.  You are correct sir.  I'm trying to walk before I can run.  I'm not that hideous I need to put it up.  It's like Seinfeld.  I've got a little hair left.  It's the sad remains of a once great empire.  I'll get this thing figured out yet.
