ORES Performance Index ~ 5 years

This year we reached the end of the 5 year performance comparison. So, how did real estate perform compared to other asset classes?

Here's the index summary:

182.94....... gold

147.63........ crude oil

122.85.........GTA real estate

111.83.........TSX

86.64 .........Dow Jones

83.26.........S&P

82.58........ Nasdaq

All indexes started out at 100 on 1 January 2004. The summary above indicates their respective values as of 1 January 2009, five full years later. Oil would have been the best performer until the last six months. The stock markets have also dropped substantially in the last three months.

Basically, that has left gold as the best and most stable performer, and real estate which until recently demonstrated modest gains shows its strength and stability as a longer term performer.
