A true Colorado Adventure!

When our youngest was just a baby, my husband took me for a surprise weekend get away.  I had no clue where we were going, he headed up into the mountains and when we finally turned into a driveway, I had the most incredible veiw! Mountains covered in Ponderosa Pine and Aspen, and in a valley, an old ranch house surrounded with the typical ranch buildings. It was like stepping back into time.  I loved it.

We were at the MLazyC Ranch. This ranch was built in the early 1900's by the Thatcher family, you may have read an earlier blog posted by Dena about Rosemont Museum, Rosemont was built by the same family. The Thatchers grew vegetables which they then took to Denver via wagon and sold and worked cattle on this ranch.  In 1992 the Ranch was purchased by Randy and Brenda Myers. They wanted to turn it into an exciting place to visit. They carefully restored the old buildings, and now the cabins you stay in were originally the ranch hands cabins, the main dining hall is at one side of the original homestead. The cabins are decorated in old west style and most include a wood burning stove, in room coffee, and even WiFi. The beds are extremely comfortable, you won't wake up with a back ache after sleeping on these! When you stay in the cabins breakfast is included. This is a real hearty breakfast. Just like the kind I helped my Mom cook for the hands that we hired when I was younger. It's a working man's meal!

If any of you watch CMT's reality show, Cowboy U, the sixth season, Cowboy U-Colorado was filmed here using MLazyC livestock. They offer a HUGE variety of activities, including,

Horseback Riding

Pack Trips

Cattle Drive

Hay, Carriage, Sleigh Rides

Shooting Range

Chuck Wagon Dinner

Ranch Cowboy School

Cowboy U Adventure

Cavalry Training

Vacation Packages

They also do training for our Military Special Forces.

It was on our visit here that I learned of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Assoc. Talk about a fun event to watch! The competitions are all shooting at targets while on horseback at a dead run. These guys/gals are GOOD!

This is an incredible place to visit, a real working cattle ranch. The owners and the cowboys/cowgirls are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.  Sometimes it's good to get away from our modern world and go back to a simpler time.

The MLazyC/Mule Creek Outfitters also do something VERY special, and for this I hold them in very high regard.  Ever so often they bring in 6 soldiers that were injured in Iraq, along with thier families, and give them some intensive theraputic riding.  What does it cost these soldiers and thier families for this? Nothing.  What do these men and women that served and did thier duty get from this? A little peace, and maybe gain a little more physical freedom thanks to the therapy.  I spoke with the ranch manager, Jim, yesterday, he was a Sgt. and was in Iraq, he hasn't been home but maybe a year or so.  He's a very nice man, and he'll make sure everyone that visits will have a GREAT time!

The prices are very reasonable. The smaller cabins start at $75.00.  It's an experience you'll never forget! Thier website is: www.mlazyc.com

They are located just outside of Lake George Colorado at an elevation of 8200 feet. Thier phone # is 800-289-4868.  Reservations can also be made online.

Bonnie- That sounds like a wonderful adventure. We've been considering a family reunion. That may be a wonderful place to have it. Let's see...should I do the shooting or the cattle drive. All I know is I can't wait for the camp fire.

What a great idea! The family reunion at a ranch. I never thought of anything like that, but that would work so good!    I 'm ready for the campfire!  There's just something about a campfire....

Thanks!
