When I entered a retail store earlier today, I saw a small decal on the door advising, among other things, that "we are alarmed." Of course they mean it as a deterrent to would-be intruders. However, it got me thinking.

We all should be alarmed - at how our free enterprise system has been abused, at how we are tip-toeing down the path to socialism (and liking it), at how bailouts and earmarks have taken over for corporate responsibility and ingenuity, at how one disgruntled voice can ruin it for the many, at how the brilliant checks and balances system created in our Constitution no longer is, at how the judiciary (originally a minor player) is the most powerful part of government, at how we are longing for economic concepts already discarded by other nations, and at how we are so concerned about what other countries think about us.

Then after that alarm takes hold, we should be outraged - if for nothing more than our relative inability to get Washington to change anything for the better.

Hi Steve, I agree with you we should be very alarmed. The grass is actually very green where we stand and sadly most people don't see it.

Steve I don't think that we have reached the point that you beleive we are at, but I do agree that we are headed in that direction.  We do need to put the breaks on and turn back to what made this country great.

Steve.. I agree with you completely.  It seems that people are looking for a sense of security with the road leading to socialism.  What they don't understand is that it is like a Trojan Horse.  What looks great usually has a bad side to it.

Lourdes,

That's for your support and agreement. Be strong and keep free enterprise working. :)

George,

I can cite numerous examples for each point I mentioned. I know that I can overcome these challenges and still have a very thriving business, but I am quite dismayed that we have allowed them as a nation. :)

Valerie,

There is a part of each of us that likes something free, it's just that very few things really are. :)

We should all be alarmed.  I'm praying for a better future for this country.

Toula,

We definitely should be alarmed, and Congress is giving us no reason to believe that things are going to improve. :)
