Doorknob with Sentrilock

If you are a Realtor planning on showing a short sale listing, this is a bad sight.

It means you probably won't be showing that home today.

I came across this ugly sight not once but twice TODAY.

It is a door knob, smashed off it's door. The Sentrilock still desperately trying to do it's job...

Clasping on the doorknob.

Smashed off by a lender, taking control of the REO listing.

Nope, you won't be showing that home.

Unless you have the garage code.:)

I had a listing last year, not a short sale and not a foreclosure. Someone "liberated" the handle onto which my Supra was locked. They just took the handle, not the separate lock. Go figure.

Ken, you are too funny - the Sentrilock desperately trying to do its job... - why on earth would the lender smash in the door knob? Talk about cutting off the proverbial nose...

They put on a new doorknow with a new lock. They no longer want to risk access on vacant listings.

Ken, I think you encountered a crazy lender. Wild story.

That happened to one of my short sale listings a few months ago. But someone jumped the gun on this one, locks were changed back, and we got it sold...but it was close.

That stinks, I guess they atleast leave the keybox so the owner doesn't have to buy (rent) a new one.

Ken - It is amazing what people will do. I really thing knocking off the door handle will make it any earier to get into the home.

A missing doorknob would be a defect in my report...lol. Seriously, that is a pretty extreme action. I didn't know they did that.

I am with a few of my peers here...I had no idea that they did this as a matter of course. No matter how you want to paint it, it is tacky. They have your information...why not take the time to call and have you remove your lockbox? No excuses. Just wrong.

Hi Ken... I see this happen all the time. You are correct... a SAD sign of the times, but at least they left you your lockbox... I have had them cut off by lenders and discarded!

Sometimes the garage code won't work either -- not if the bank has shut off the electricity.

Usually one finds out from another agent who is trying to show the property.

We haven't experienced that tactic as yet. One of the office listings went into foreclosure and a representative of the bank called the Agent to let her know. Guess it all depends on the mindset of the agent in charge.

A lot of our REO agents use contractor's lock boxes and do not put the code on the MLS to open them. Of course, I rarely get them on the phone either to give me the code.

Man that is pretty tough. It is hard to imagine that it wouldn't be easier to make a phone call. It seems kind of angry and personal

Yikes - and so unprofessional - why not call the agent? At least they didn't cut the Sentrilock off instead - which would have cost the agent a lot of money!
