Sometimes
people
wonder why when I write in my blog I often cover tech and computer
issues. One reason for this is that I have always loved working with
computers. I first started working with computers on a Commodore64
about 25 years ago. Before I was 10 years old I was learning to
program in Basic and while I never did pursue that as a career, the
love remains.
But
why blog about
this kind of stuff?
Well
the short
answer is that I tend to write about programs that I find useful in
my Real Estate career or something that just seems interesting to me.
A few weeks ago I wrote a post called Drop
Everything You Are Doing And Get drop.io.
I
didn't write the
post for any other reason than it seemed like a pretty useful tool.
Just a few hours after I made that post I was contacted by Steven
Greenwood [steve@dropio.com]
http://twitter.com/sgreenwood
He just wanted to thank me for writing the post. It tells me a lot
about a company if not only are they watching for what people say
about them, but they take the time to thank people for the exposure
that they are giving them. In fact I have been contacted by quite a
few companies for writing different posts about their products and I
plan to continue this in the future.
You
can check out
their website here.
Take
a look at the
drop.io blog here
where they just
announced a major update to their Firefox plugin

7 Comments on Why I Blog About Companies Like drop.io
This truly eximplifies the "age of conversation." I believe that we can expect more and more businesses reaching out in this way. The art will be to communicate thoughtfully and not appear to just be seeding information for selfish interest.
I am very curious to see how real estate agents are able to engage in this conversation in the same way--without bullying their way into the conversation.
Very interesting Shane and a very good blog!
I had not heard of drop.io.......thanks for the links so I can read about it.
the original 64. I had one too, played with some apple's, wow then windows 3.1
Hi Shane, Thanks for the memories! I haven't seen any mention of a Commodore64 in awhile, so I couldn't help but chuckle. I assume that I go back a few years further than you, so I also had the pleasure of the Z80 based computer which I guess I am too old to remember the name, the Apple’s I & II, then let's not forget the Radio Shack TRS-80, or "Trash 80" as it was better known in my circles. It's amazing how far things have progressed in those 25-30 years!
Yup I actually worked on the trs-80 a tiny bit but that was just to load up a game or something. But back then you had to know a thing or two just to even do the simplest task. I remember in grade school they had the Apple computers.
I actually installed Windows 3.1 on a machine that came with Windows 98. That was fun!
Shane, thanks for the heads up. I will check it out soon. A good product/service is really worth a praise.
