Why am I writing this blog? Hmmm... Life as a Realtor in Austin can be isolating and downright lonely sometimes. Which is why I joined a large firm versus a smaller boutique firm. I try to live every day with a positive attitude. I like people and I like to be helpful. So Keller Williams pretty much had me at hello. Their philosophy of helping new Realtors learn the ropes was a great thing even though it seems light years ago.

I have tried to pay it forward with the Newbie Realtors and the new to KW but experienced Realtors that also join KW. Whenever possible I pitch in to help the receptionist when she is swamped or help guide a new agent trying to "find their sea legs" at the KW-SWMC. I am on the Culture Committee and I welcome each and every new person that joins our market center.

Today I was chatting with a group in the Lennar lunch after property tour. we were discussing blogs and blog tools and buttons and widgets. I admitted I was feeling a little lost in this particular area. While I have been blogging the last year, somehow widgits had escaped me?! A little later that afternoon a long time serious blogger, Gail Tassey came to my rescue. She popped into my office and asked if I had five minutes. I said yes, of course what can I do for you. Her reply with a big smile was "No, what can I do for YOU!" She quickly showed me how to add a widget to my blog. Voila I am no longer in the dark ages. I thanked her profusely and was thrilled at my blog's widget progress. I never could have done this without her guidance.

About thirty minutes later another very experienced KW agent, Maureen Gerhke came and asked me if I had attended the class that morning with Gracy Title? I had to admit I did not, and I asked what the topic was. She said it was about making labels for farms from TCAD (Travis County Appraisal District). I told her while I missed that class, I knew exactly what to do as I had started doing it for my farm back in late 2007 when ABOR switched us from Tempo to MLXchange. Her face lit up and we went to her office. I created the search and exported the labels she needed and saved them to a file for her. Then I wrote down the steps and asked her to give it a try. She did it perfectly and was so happy the joy positively radiated out of her face.

knowledge is better shared

Fate has a funny way of keeping score. I have two more people to help. The thing to remember is always pay it forward. If you don't know what I mean, please rent the movie "Pay it Forward" with Kevin Spacey. It is very uplifting and inspirational. It is simple there are only three rules to Pay It Forward.

Dear Rick and Angela,

My widget is on the right side of my AR blog and it tells you how many visitors I have and where they are. I think its pretty cool! It was not hard to add but there are a couple steps.

1. Pull up your home page and choose settings.

2. Go to www.fidget.com ,  now find the widget you want and copy the line of code.

3. Paste the code into your blog description box.

4. Voila! You have a widget!!

Dear Viki and Kari,

I loved the movie. While I was always a positive helpful person it motivated me to conciously try to make the world a better place.

Dear Connie & Laura,

I don't mind preaching to the KW choir, I am just happy to have a choir to sing in! Remember when you sing with me, then the song carries further to reach more people!

Dear Pat & Marjorie,

If your Broker is not doing something positive for you everyday, you should consider joining us at KW! I promise you will love love love it!!

Thank you so much, Betina!  I also loved the movie which eventually gave me a great idea that your post just spurred me to expand.  I will try to blog it out later today and I will let you know so that you can give me your opinion on it.

(Well, at least I think it's a great idea. YMMV)

Please keep me posted on the idea. I am thrilled that I inspired you to write something! It has been a while since I was someone's muse.

Cheers!

great message Betina ! ... and AR seems to have cultivated a lot of people who are happy to pay it fwd too.

... if we are reached out to for assistance, we all should be willing to help in an instant - you never know when we ourselves will be the one looking for advice.

Nice post :o)

Both professional and in my personal life I try to pay it forward. It is almost a selfish act, because it makes me feel so good.

Betina, I think that we have to be able to pay it forward. But, what I hate is when I see people do it for all the wrong reasons.

Dear Sheldon, You are so right!! Maybe that is why I love being in the rain so much!!

Dear Lisa, I am with you on that. That is just how I was raised and it makes me feel good. So maybe your right, maybe it is selfish??

Dear Danny, I totally agree. You should give from the heart, and you should do it because you want to. If you do it for any other reason it does not count.

Betina, not only is paying it forward personally rewarding, it invokes the law of reciprocity. A powerful tool in influencing others when enacted genuinely. Thank you for the reminder.

Dear Mary,

Come to Austin and I would be happy to work with you too! In fact I am looking for another agent to share our office in the SWMC. It has a window looking on to Barton Creek greenbelt.

Dear Tony, Thanks for dropping by.

Dear Mary, I love Colorado and visit/vacation occasionally. If I were to leave Texas that is on the very short list of places that I would consider moving!! Maybe I could just visit you instead. Is Red Feather Lakes close to A-Basin??
