Hi Kat-Yes, that was taken after an ice in 1998 I believe if I'm remembering right. It was a big maple in my back yard. Surprising enough it bounced back pretty well. I was without power for 5 days but some people that lived in rural areas didn't have it for a month. Thanks for visiting. Loved that flying pig.
We had something this bad similarly in Dallas in January 1979 before I moved here. It was one of the worst ice storms ever in DFW Sharon. It does such damage to the trees.
Sharon,
That picture is cold to look at. Ice storms decorate the trees with their glaze but so many of them break. :)
Steve
Hi Gary-Thanks for the support. It amazing what mother nature can do. I'm glad I'm where it is warmer now.
Steve-Thanks for stopping by. Pretty, but not fun when it knocks power out.
Wow that was an ice storm! A hundred years ago I lived in North Texas where my parents lost some trees to storms like that...
Sharon, beautiful, but in a sad way, like fire, when it damages the trees.
Debi
Wow Sharon- I'm happy to hear this sad looking tree bounced back. I'm always amazed at the resiliency found in nature....amazed and thankful. Oh yes....I'm also thankful I live in Florida...LOL But just so you don't feel like we always have it good, tonight will be in the high 30's or low 40's....brrrrrr!!! How's school going?
Hi Debi-It is nice to meet you. I'm glad you are going to be able to stay here on AR. it looks like you are a very talented lady. So I'm glad I'll get a chance to get to know you. That tree amazingly enough bounced back really well. Plenty of other trees were not so lucky. Thanks so much for stopping over. Look forward to reading your blog. Have a great night.
Hi Gail-Nice to chat again. This old tree bounced back amazing well and went on to bear many more years of leaves. That is rough 30 or 40 degrees. NOT! :-) I just talked to a friend of mine back in NY and it is -25 degrees below zero with lots of snow. I'm not going to be able to go to college this Spring so I've decide instead to focus on my education on AR. Treat it the same way I would a regular class. Thank for commenting. Look forward to chatting again. :-)
Sharon, That's an amazing picture, I surprised (and very glad) that the beautiful tree survived!
Hi Carole-It was a huge maple tree even though it did end up losing quite a few limbs. It went on to still produce plenty of leaves. I was glad it survived as well because it was a beautiful shade tree. Thank you for visiting.
Hi Sharon! This is very familiar to us--we seem to get the ice and not the snow! Luckily we haven't had it this year but, it's going to be 9-degrees here this weekend and I'm hoping that the precipitation holds off until it warms up a bit! Great shot!
Hi Debe-NY gets it share of bad weather and we had ice storms before but nothing that did as much damage as this one. Their temps have dipped as low as -40 many years ago but we would many winters get -20 for a week at a stretch. It is very different here as it is supposed to get about 9 degrees just like in NC. The weather here is much better than NY. I don't miss it at all. I appreciate you stopping by. Have a great day and God Bless YOU.
