Charlottesville

Located in Central Virgina, Charlottesville is really not that well known. Sure we have been in a lot of top ten lists, but with a population of around 45,000 in the city of Charlottesville and less than 120,000 in the entire county of Albemarle, there really is a lot of people who have not heard of us...

Per Wilipedia: Charlottesville is best known as the home to three US Presidents, Thomas Jefferson, James Madisonand James Monroe, as well as the home of the University of Virginia. The city is also known for Jefferson's Monticello, his renowned mountain-top home which attracts approximately half a million tourists every year

Charlottesville was named after Sophia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the queen consort of King George III of the United Kingdom.

We have a lot of famous people living here or who have 2nd homes here. It is a great little town to call home...

When you are considering a place to relocate, think about Charlottesville Real Estate, many do and as one of my neighbors says.... "shhhh... It's a secret"

I do enjoy the history of an area thanks for the research. We only have one president for our area.

I also like Charlottesville.  My question to you is "Why didn't you tag this under Localism"?

Charles, it is interesting how cities get their names isn't it? I know that Franklin, TN was named after Benjamin Franklin...

Hi Charles!  Queen Sophia was a popular woman--we were named for her also!  We are also Mecklenburg County.  Great Localism post, Charles!  Thanks for posting in Local History too!
