Major Franchise Is Stopping TV Ads Means More Competition for Search Results

I read in one of the emails I get in my junk box that one of the larger real estate franchises is slowing and possibly stopping their advertising on TV.  That is an interesting re-allocation of funds.  Their focus will now be on the promotion of their brand on the Internet.

What does it mean to us non-franchisees?  It means our real estate marketing on-line will become even more complex anddifficult. With the deep pockets of the franchises, out SEO (search engine optimization) will be even more important. Niche keywords and excellent content are even more imperative.

If you are an independent broker, brace yourself for competition on-line unlike we have experienced before.  Learning about SEO, if you haven't already, will become even more important than it already is.

For consumers, finding a variety of real estate agent and broker sites will become more difficult as the largest companies divert their advertising dollars to the Internet.  Smaller companies, especially in larger markets, may find their search engine placement efforts dwarfed by the larger franchise dollars.  This will make Internet portals that aren't influenced by SEO more important to consumers.

Happy Selling and Listing.

Heath, I read that also...dangit!!!  I liked that the big guys kept spending their money on things that don't really work...oh well, it had to happen sooner or later.

Heath - In our market we've had one previously franchised company go independent and a while back I posted Franchise or Non Franchise  Which posed the question about which is better in our current economic climate...Still so many unanswerable questions.

Best of luck to you in 2009!

Might not be as impactful as you think.

But, who knows.

Interesting, I hadn't heard that. I like it too! But I still think we are our best advertising

Even more evidence that all of us on AR trying to maximize our online presence are on the right track.  I'd hate to be selling traditional media these days.

I just got off the phone with an old friend that is in the media selling business and he says it is not as good as it used to be, but what is (except being a bail out recepient).

Our newspaper real estate section on Sundays is down to about four pages, and I haven't seen a television ad in probably a couple of years now. Once we can get HD on the Internet and our computers, I think it's going to be bye-bye to television. I know I'll get ride of mine in preference for another computer "monitor" nearer by desk.

The "real estate book" magazine here has gone from 49 pages to 24.
