Blog Header, you did that yourself?! -Tips for the beginners!

Okay, so I know I have only been on Active Rain for a day, BUT today I learned a useful tip from someone on Twitter & I wanted to share it with all of you!

I was browsing around on my first day of Active Rain thinking wow, all of these people have such cool sites, I wonder how they made those headers?

So today I wrote a twit, or tweet, about it... and presto! I got an awesome answer!

  • If you go to scrapblog they have "blank pages" you can use to make your very on header. So go on, bring up a new window and check it out.
  •  They have stickers, pictures, & awesome fonts that work out just perfect for creative headers. You can also add your own images! Play around on it for a while. You'll get the hang of it!
  • I have not figured out how to save the stinkin thing right to my computer from there so I usually publish it else where (like Facebook) & then save it from there.
  •  Then when you are done go to picnik...upload your new header & then click crop. Outline the header you made, then crop it and it will get rid of the scraps of the full page for you. Then when you go to save choose 925 or so for Width X whatever it makes you have... and you have your very own header!
  • You might have to adjust the size accordingly. Mine is a little off right now but I am too lazy to go fix it! Hope this helps some of you that don't know how to make one, just like me!

So I made my very own "makeshift" blog Header! && I love it, cause it was made by ME!

Check out other blog headers I made today!!! Terri & Tony

You can also use this to make your own background images for Active Rain, Twitter, etc! Awesome site!

Leave me your feedback, I would love to know what you thought about my second post, as well the instructions for making your own blog header!

EDIT: Once you resize your image, in order to get the grain or blurry look out of it, try the "sharpen" tool. I fixed 2 out of 3 so far! They look great!

Hi Kayla,

I am still working on my header! I cannot seem to get it to save at the right size and still be able to read the wording. Any additional advise would be great! Karyn

Hi Kayla,

I think your header is cute. Great job! I had never heard of scrapblog.com before.

My favorite way to make a header is through picnik.com. I uploaded a photo I had taken of flowers then used the crop tool to get a height of 115 pixels high and 950 pixels wide (these are the exact dimensions of the A|R header). I found the portion of the picture I wanted to use and hit "apply" so it would crop. Then I played around with different effects and added a text box with the title of my blog. It's easy to save your images to your computer when you're done. I like it especially because I haven't had any problems with my images being grainy or fuzzy.

Have a great day,

Anne Rains
