After several months of showings, my buyer has finally arrived at a decision ... to buy a new John Laing Home in Banning Lewis Ranch. She is thrilled and asked me this Monday to call them and set up a contract writing time.

Monday came, messages to the model and the coporate office were left by me, no answer.  Tuesday came and I got desperate for answers.  I called the model, the sales rep's cell phone (now disconnected), the corporate office, lending office, and design office.  No answer, just voice mail again.  My buyer called saying that the model had a sign on it that they were going to be closed Monday and Tuesday.

Now comes Wednesday, the day where all was revealed.  After numerous messages, I took a drive out to Banning Lewis Ranch to see what was happening.  A car was there, and I became so excited to see some life at the model, but as I drove up the moving box on top of the car gave me a sinking feeling.  The sales agent then walks outside with a look of sadness all over his face.  "Sorry, but there is no more John Laing Homes anymore."  I couldn't believe my ears.  What about my client?  For a moment I was so angry, then relieved to know that she had not put earnest money down yet.  What about the folks who are building?  The sales agent did not seem to know what was going to happen to people who were already under contract and building, but rumor has it from another source of mine that current projects may still close.  Regardless, another builder is leaving town ... one that used to have a sterling reputation.  Good bye John Laing.  Now it's time to help mend my buyer's heart...

Sorry to hear about your buyers situation. I am one of the buyers that is building and set to close in the next 10 days.  My agent and I have made calls to anyone within JLH that will listen and no one seems to know whats going on.  The only thing we have been able to find out is that they have not and do not intend to file chapter 11 or 7, which I guess is good news.  I was wondering if your source had details regarding timelines.

Shawn,

Wow, my heart really goes out to you as well.  My source said that a skelton crew (I heard about 20 people will remain with the Denver/Colorado Springs division) will be combined at the Gold Hill Mesa model.  All other models will be closed for now, and I am not sure if they are at Gold Hill Mesa yet or will be there in a few weeks.  I think all construction and everything is on halt right now.  Yes, it is good news that they are not filing chapter 11 or 7, but most importantly, I hope you get your home delivered to you and that you make it to a smooth closing in the end!

I used to sell for John Laing Homes. I am extremely proud to now sell for Ron Covington Homes.  Ron was the former President of John Laing. Many of our floorplans are designed by Woodley Architectural Group which is the same architect that designed the John Laing floor plans. Our heart goes out to the buyers who are seeking a solution, and our team is here to assist you. Please visit: www.roncovingtonhomes.com. Our build time is 4-5 months. Does anyone know how to get a hold of what is left of the John Laign team in Colorado Springs about a home which they appear to have not finished?  According to the assessor's page, it is still owned by the company.

Do a title search and find out which bank gave John Laing the land loan to buy the lots.  Presumably those loans are still outstanding.  The bank will know how to get a hold of them.  They would want paid off and the only way for that to happen is for John Laing to get the lots/homes sold.
