Hi Rosalinda...I almost moved to Oyster Bay back in the mid-60s.  So much for that.

In spite of all that snow, your rose bushes look very hardy.  I'll be anxious to see what they look this summer.

Sometimes we need a good extended cold spell to weed out the weak.  Goes for plants animals and us humans also!

Rosalinda, I want to see it this spring too! Don't forget to get  us a new shot when they're blooming!

Rosalinda I don't think you are going to have any roses for a while.  Man that looks cold.

Hi Rosalinda, All I can say is b-r-r-r-r-r!  My guess is that it will be awhile before you sit out at that table in your garden.  Awfully pretty though.

Looks cold to me.  In Detroit you wouldn't be seeing the rose bushes

Kate - Oyster Bay is really a nice place to live except right now it is much too cold in the Northeast and that includes Oyster Bay.  I'll post another photo in the summer unless I can locate the shots I took last summer.

William - Sometimes, I lost some roses during the harsh winter months but then I can have room for new roses.

Debi - I'll remember to take new spring shots and will surely post it.

Linda - The new fallen snow is so pretty.  I love the look of the garden.

John - Yes.  The garden is asleep right now and so the gardener is taking a nice break.

Tim and Pam - Some roses are winter hardy and snow is a good insulation for them.  As long as there is snow covering them, they are well protected.  The freezing and thawing is the worst thing for them.

Susan - It will be a long winter I can tell you that.  I can't do much outside right now but I can plan what to plant next spring.

Russ - Some rosarians in Detroit covered their roses with all kinds of winter protection.  It's too much work.  Some rosarians treated roses as annuals and just buy new ones every year.

Lauren - I will post another photo when they are in bloom.

Lou - I can't wait till spring.  I planted tulips in between my roses so in spring, there is a parade of colors in the garden.

Kathy -  Snow is so beautiful and it shows the outline of the parterre.  Glad you like it.

Your rose biushes look hardy and look sure to be blooming in the spring.  I'm in Long Island Wine Country, East Marion and I'm not sure mine survived.  It's snowing here today and i'm going to take pictures.   I have to go out side and the temp is falling today to 8 degrees.  Cold.

Wilfred,

It is still snowing here in Oyster Bay.  I will probably lose one or two this winter - those that are almost dead anyway last season.  I used to cover them with rose collars twenty years ago but I don't do that anymore.  I just have too many roses and if I lose one or two, I'll just replace them with new varieties.  I bet it's really cold where you are.  But it is so pretty there.  We go there in the summertime to visit some vineyards.

Brrrr! Now, that's a lot of snow. I don't like snow.

Tony,

Lucky you to be in Charlotte.  I just came back from Charleston, SC two days ago to this crazy weather.  Wish I'm down there.  It's mighty cold here now, on the teens.  I don't like cold weather.

Well now, that's a different rose shot.  :)  I have seen two others here tonight that have a big head start on what you've got there.  LOL!  I am looking forward to seeing this same shot taken in about six months.  OK?

Rosalinda,

Are those all white roses?   Just kidding.   I would also love to see the same picture but taken in the summer.   Thanks for sharing the photo.    What is your favorite color for a rose?

1:42am • #19

Doreen - As you can see, I love roses.  I will post another shot in the summer.

Gerry - You're welcome.  I always take shots all season and will post one in the summer while the roses are in bloom so watch for it.  My favorite rose color is yellow and my favorite rose is called "Graham Thomas" which is a buttery yellow English Rose.

Rosalinda,

Thank you.   I look forward to checking the future photos of your rose garden and seeing the various colors of roses and especially the yellow ones which I expect to see in large quantities.   It just occurred to me that your first name means beautiful rose in Spanish.   Your nickname ("The Rose Lady") suits you well.   Have a great weekend!

Gerry,

A Spaniard colleague of mine many years ago told me that about my name.  I'm known in my town as "The Rose Lady" so I decided to use that as my brand.  Have a nice weekend too!
