Heads up

REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public today
REMINDER... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.

.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS
To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked . You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.. It takes about 20 seconds

Hey, Bobbie.

This "warning" has been circulating for years. I first heard about it way back in 2001. It's an urban myth. It's false. You can find out more information from Snopes.

A good general rule of thumb is that if you get an email with "warning" or "alert" or any other such term in it, go to Snopes and check it out. You'll usually find that it's false.

According to UrbanLegends, the story was circulated before:  http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/business/a/cell_directory.htm

BUT, it certainly can't hurt to register the cell phone number with the do not call list!!  Thanks for the reminder.

Myth or not, I'm going to call and register. I do believe that something has changed to make our cell phone numbers more accesible to people who want them. I'm not sure of the details, but if registering helps- I'm doing it.

Thanks!

Hi,  I did some research on this and that it why I chose to post.  Even according to Snopes.com Intelius was for a period in 2008 offering a fee-for-use reverse cell directory, which would indicate that there is a list compiled.  Now, the wireless companies may have no INTENTION of selling the list with the recent breaches of information -  TJ MAXX, WALMART, OUR OWN GOVERNMENT, taking precautions to protect my cell phone number is just a no-brainer to me.

Bobbie, as others have posted, this 'news' is only partially true.  It remains unlawful for businesses to call cell phones for solicitations or other activities unless they have your permission.  Cell phone numbers will not be published in directories without your active participation.

Although this email is an urban myth, it's a good reminder to add your cell phone number to the Do Not Call Registry. Thanks.

This is awesome!!!!!!!!

I'm going to reverse sell all of these telemarketers to join us so they can work for themselves and not someone else!

Thanks for the reminder Bobbie! I would rather be prepared than sorry! I do get a lot of calls on my cell and UL home regardless, but do not usually take the time to persue it. Better would be if we could hit a key on these calls that would disable them from continuing, especially the stupid recordings!
