Why the YAHOO directory matters to SEO

Why the YAHOO directory matters to SEO:

In general, I am "neutral" on paid directory submissions, like Business.com and some others. Usually, there are better ways to get links, for less money.

However, while the cost is high ($299), the YAHOO directory provides an advantage that others do not.

When you submit to YAHOO, your link propagates to abotu 50 of their sub-domains. (real estate.yahoo.com, uk.yahoo.com, etc.).

Apparently, Google sees them as separate links, and they collectively add to your link popularity. And the PR of the links is usually good.

So, if you are looking for a quick way to pad your link popularity, submit your site to the YAHOO directory.

DO you have to do it every year..maybe not. In a year, you should have built your link popularity to the point that you do not need these folks at YAHOO.

It's a good boost, at the outset...

Link Building - cool, I'm in!  Wasn't sure of the advantage of handing 300 bucks over to Yahoo, but perhaps there's something there after all.

We hear different comments on this subject.  Not ready to spend the money right now - at least until we see what Google is doing!

Stanton,

Thanks for the comment, and for joining the Link Building for Real Estate Group.

I have done a lot of link back analysis/ranking research on this subject. I was actually a skeptic for a long time, but after seeing sites buy it and then rank better, everywhere I looked, I changed my mind.

Bruce/Mary,

I agree, the price of YAHOO is hard to take. If it does not fit your budget, try other link building methods that cost less or use sweat equity...

I'm not ready to spend the 300 either, but will bookmark the idea for later. Headed over to the link-building group. Thanks.
